A $5.175 million Magid Glove settlement resolves claims the company violated Illinois laws by using fingerprint time clocks and taking temperatures with scanners.

The settlement benefits individuals who used a fingerprint-scan time clock or had their temperature taken using a scanner at Magid’s Romeoville, Illinois, facility between Jan. 8, 2016, and Aug. 30, 2024.

According to the class action lawsuit, Magid Glove used fingerprint time clocks and temperature scanners without giving the proper disclosures about collecting biometric information. Plaintiffs in the case argue this violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act.

Magid Glove manufactures work gloves, personal protective equipment and other industrial safety products.

Magid hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $5.175 million to resolve the BIPA class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the Magid Glove settlement, class members can receive payments of around $3,244.38 if they used a fingerprint scan device and up to $135.26 if their temperature was taken using a scanner.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Oct. 29, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Dec. 20, 2024.

To receive Magid Glove settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Nov. 19, 2024.
