Stanford Federal Credit Union (SFCU) agreed to a $450,000 class action settlement to resolve claims it charged unfair overdraft and non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees.

The Stanford Federal Credit Union settlement benefits current and former SFCU members who had a checking account with the credit union between June 19, 2016, and Sept. 22, 2025, and were charged two or more non-sufficient fund fees followed by an overdraft fee on the same ACH transaction or check.

According to the class action lawsuit, Stanford Federal Credit Union charged multiple NSF fees on transactions that had already been charged a non-sufficient fund fee. The credit union also allegedly charged overdraft fees on transactions that had already been charged an NSF fee, which allegedly violated the credit union’s account agreements.

Stanford Federal Credit Union is a financial institution that serves the California Bay area.

Stanford Federal has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $450,000 class action settlement to resolve the allegations.

Under the terms of the Stanford Federal Credit Union settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on the number of NSF and overdraft fees they were charged during the class period. No payment estimates are available at this time.

Stanford Federal Credit Union will also provide non-monetary relief to class members. The credit union agreed to amend its account agreements to clarify its NSF fee and overdraft fee policies.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Aug. 13, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the Stanford Federal Credit Union fees settlement is scheduled for Dec. 10, 2026.

No claim form is required to benefit from the class action settlement. Class members who do not exclude themselves will automatically receive settlement benefits.
