The Los Angeles Times agreed to pay $3.85 million to resolve claims that it violated California privacy laws by using trackers to collect information from website visitors without their consent.
The Los Angeles Times settlement benefits California residents who accessed the Los Angeles Times online via website or mobile app and had their information collected by tracking technologies between Jan. 31, 2023, and Dec. 19, 2025.
According to the class action lawsuit, the Los Angeles Times used three website trackers — the TripleLift Tracker, GumGum Tracker and Audiencerate Tracker — to collect information from website visitors without their consent. The plaintiff in the case argues that this practice violated the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA).
The Los Angeles Times is a news outlet that covers local, national and international news.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is April 22, 2026.
