A $29.5 million Citibank settlement resolves claims the bank violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by bombarding noncustomers with robocalls.

The settlement benefits consumers who are not current or former Citibank customers and who received one or more prerecorded calls or robocalls concerning a past-due credit card account between Aug. 15, 2014, and July 31, 2024.

According to the class action lawsuit, Citibank placed unsolicited robocalls and prerecorded calls to consumers concerning past-due credit card balances that they were not responsible for as non-Citibank customers. These calls allegedly violated the TCPA.

Citibank is a banking provider and a credit card, mortgage and personal loan lender.

Citibank hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $29.5 million to resolve the TCPA class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Each claimant is estimated to receive between $350 and $850. Class member recovery is limited to $2,500 per claimant unless they can provide telephone records, screenshots or other evidence that they received more than five calls.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Dec. 20, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Jan. 14, 2025.

To receive Citibank settlement payments, class members must submit a valid claim form by Dec. 20, 2024.
