Apple has agreed to a $25 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that it misrepresented its Family Sharing plan in order to deceive users.

The settlement benefits consumers who purchased a subscription to an app through the Apple Store while enrolled in a Family Sharing group with at least one other member between June 21, 2015, and Jan. 30, 2019.

According to the Apple Family Sharing plan class action lawsuit, Apple concealed the fact that consumers who purchased app subscriptions would not be able to share these subscriptions with family members through Apple’s Family Sharing groups. Plaintiffs in the case claim Apple intentionally misled them about the capability of Family Sharing plan features.

Apple Family Sharing allows up to six family members to share access to certain Apple services, including App Store purchases.

Apple hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $25 million to resolve the class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, class members can receive an equal share of the net settlement fund, up to a maximum payment of $30. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the number of claims filed. Class members can choose to receive their settlement payment as a check or as a direct ACH transfer.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is March 1, 2024.

The final approval hearing for the Apple family plan settlement is scheduled for April 2, 2024.

In order to receive a settlement payment, whether by check or direct deposit, class members must submit a valid claim form by March 1, 2024.
