First Financial Security agreed to a $1.2 million class action settlement to resolve claims it failed to prevent a 2023 data breach.

The First Financial Security settlement benefits individuals whose private information was compromised in a data breach on or around Oct. 17, 2023.

The First Financial Security data breach occurred in October 2023 and compromised sensitive consumer information, such as Social Security numbers. Affected consumers took legal action against the company, arguing that First Financial Security could have prevented the breach with reasonable cybersecurity measures.

First Financial Security is a financial services company that offers life insurance, annuities and other services.

First Financial Security has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay $1.2 million to resolve the data breach class action lawsuit.

Under the terms of the First Financial Security settlement, class members can receive a cash payment for data breach-related expenses.

Class members can claim up to $500 in unreimbursed expenses, such as bank fees, credit expenses, communication charges, credit report costs and up to three hours of lost time at a rate of $20 per hour.

Class members can also receive two years of free medical and credit monitoring services through CyEx Medical Shield Complete. Class members can use the enrollment code included in their mailed settlement notice to enroll for these services.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is Sept. 18, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the First Financial Security settlement is scheduled for Nov. 9, 2026.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by July 20, 2026.
