Green Dot prepaid credit cardIn a class action lawsuit, Green Dot prepaid card consumers claim that the cards aren’t reliable and easy to use, as the company advertises.

Plaintiffs Curtis Jackson and Antoinette Chapman say that they decided to acquire Green Dot cards at least in part because they were advertised as convenient, secure, and easy to use.

However, the plaintiffs allegedly discovered that this was not the case, claiming that the company that supplies the cards, Green Dot Corporation, lost their money, transferred it to another card without telling them, or made the funds unavailable.

The Green Dot class action argues that these experiences aren’t unique to the plaintiffs, as many Green Dot users have noted similar issues.

The plaintiffs claim that they were financially injured by Green Dot Corporation’s action to make their money inaccessible, or in some cases, Green Dot’s loss of their money entirely.

According to the Green Dot prepaid card class action lawsuit, thousands of people have already made similar complaints about the cards to the company itself, so the company knew or should have known that the cards were not performing as advertised.

Jackson and Chapman say Green Dot continues to market and sell cards that are not effective, secure, or easy to use, despite their knowledge to the contrary.

The Green Dot class account lawsuit argues that the profits Green Dot Corporation gained from the sale of the cards are, as a result, unjustly earned.

The two customers aim to represent Missouri and Pennsylvania residents who purchased Green Dot cards and had their money transferred without their consent, who experienced Green Dot lose their money, or for whom Green Dot made their money unavailable.

In Jackson’s case, he claims that he purchased a refillable debit card from Green Dot in 2017, and on or around June 5, 2018, he obtained a short term loan for the amount of $1,206.20 and had the proceeds transferred to the Green Dot card.

Allegedly, the company told him that his money would be available by June 12, 2018, and he received a note from the company to that effect on the 12th. He says that he attempted to use the funds but the card did not function.

Jackson says that when he logged onto the Green Dot app on his smart phone to resolve the issue, he received a message saying that his account was blocked, and received no help from the company’s customers service.

The Green Dot prepaid card class action says that from this event, Jackson lost the money from the loan and lost access to a storage unit that he was going to pay for with the money from the loan, and in that storage unit was thousands of dollars of possessions, that he also lost access to.

Chapman claims that she loaded $2,500 onto a Green Dot card around December 2016 or January 2017, and attempted to use the card on May 19, 2017 for a $67 purchase.

Allegedly, all further transactions were denied and she was told by a customer service representative that Chapman had activated three cards, none of which had money on them.

The Green Dot class action states that Chapman was then told that her money had been found and would be returned to her, but this was not the case and the money did not become available.

    I waisted hours trying to retrieve my own money. Sent copies of Drivers license,SS card. They lie say it’s on its way. I believe they are prejudice against me, because I am white and they are middle eastern. Fees taken out every month for them holding my money hostage. Stealing !!

    CASH BACK TRACKER IS A RIP OFF TOO!! The first year I used it I got money back from each time I used it. You have to wait 12 months to use your cash back. The 2nd year I was close to $200 cash back and when my 12 month wait was up, the money was gone. I’m now 2 months into a new year with only $3.30 on my cash back tracker. I’ve called them 5 times in the last 30 minutes and I’m still waiting for some spin as to what happened to my money. I aske where they’re located geographically and was told they were not allowed to say. Gee….I wonder why? Is there any class action lawsuits pertaining to this that I could jump on board of??? Comments please…thank you!

      Same thing just happened to me today!! After laying my father to rest and missing weeks of work that $123 that just vanished on mar 13, 2022 , which was the date it would be available to use, would come in handily to pay a bill!

    I use the green dot pre-paid card for my car note put the money on it could never activate it. Call the company they would not help. Never got my money back .Reported to BBB.

        Green Dot had technical problems last week on the 9th they told me they were having technical issues and that’s why $34 was taken off my account unauthorized. For a week they kept telling me they’re having technical problems or revamping their system and I don’t have access to my money I just have to wait until they get their system fixed and they’re going to hold my money until then. I’ve spent hours and hours on this phone and phone calls aggravation upset mad actually screaming in the phone and they kept hanging up on me and transfer me to bogus numbers they kept telling me they couldn’t get a hold of corporate that that’s the only level I can talk to is just Filipinos that has very poor English and can’t understand them and they would refuse to transfer me to their supervisors telling me there’s nothing I can do with just sit and wait until their systems fixed before I can touch my money. They’ve held my under $34 hostage over a week now and still refuse to get my money back

    Thought this was a preload card. Just picked up and put money on it. GREEN DOT TOTAL SCAM. THey ask you for your ss# and date of birth. Then they lock the card and ask you to send them your id image. then they claim they never got it. WHATEVER MONEY YOU PUT ON THE CARD IS FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET. GREEN DOT ARE TOTAL CROOKS> WHY ARE FEWLONS LIKE GREEN DOT NOT IN JAIL?????? Then they try to collect a monthly fee from you forever.

    My wife sent me money through the app. This is not the first time she sends me money. I am In charge of paying bills, buying groceries etc. I usually receive a text message stating she send me money and the link to accept it. This past time I didn’t get a text so she cancelled the transaction and sent it again the next day. I did receive the link and successfully the money was in my account. I tried to order something online and my purchase was declined. When I tried yo open my mobile app it said my account was locked. I have been calling and chatting (have call logs and screenshots) but have been unsuccessful in unblocking my account. I sent my DL info and picture to verify my identity to two different emails. Both emails were provided by an agent from a chat. I have not received a response back. I am very frustrated and upset because that money is to buy groceries. It’s been very difficult for us with this pandemic but thank God we have been making it. This is the first time, thank God, that we don’t have money to buy food and all because we can’t get access to our money. The most upsetting thing is that we don’t get a response back. My wife tried to do a dispute through the app but it didn’t let her it said to call the number but it’s impossible to speak to someone when you call.

    Ive experienced horrid service to convenient for them 6 weeks before my reward money is due that i built all year they mysteriously close my account permanently citing a pattern of misuse yet i have all my statements and there is zero anything wrong at all, they say only investigations can know what it is wouldn’t give me corporate information, refused to give me a way to have a lawyer contact them and said they weren’t giving me the money I earned, so I’m pissed I was counting on that especially now and they’re screwing me over im out roughly 600 bucks and I’m not at all happy and need help if a lawyer sees this or anyone that can help me take action id be very grateful this is awful

      Ive had this pos card for 7 or 8 years now and dont get me started on all of the ways ive caught them purposefully screwing me over and lying about it as well as straight stealing my money. On 1 occasion they tried to steal my money by making charges just disappear when a purchase was returned for a refund. Then they swore up and down I never got charged in the 1st place. Well I actually had taken a screenshot before they made it disappear which proved I was in fact charged and they still wouldnt give me back my money. I have many many other examples. We’d seriously be here all day if I attempt to name them all. The amount in question varies from mere pennies to just shy of 10 thousand dollars at the high end. I got my 10 grand but it took me 3 months while they pretended not to have gotten my deposit when in fact they did and didnt tell me they put it in some account that was not mine but they had my name on it and it sat there for many months while they lied and argued and I lost my vehicle among other hardships caused but such negligence. Oh and i recorded a greendot employee telling me I shouldnt trust greendot employee’s theyre a bunch of frauds. ?

    Green Dot is committing crime by stealing people money is broad day light!!! Why are they still allowed to be in business? how can we get the Government to shut their business down? they are scamming people for their hard earned money!! I’m one of the victims as well and it’s extremely frustrating reading all the similar stories.

    I bought and activated two of your Green Dot debit visa cards each with $500 dollars in separate accounts. I have the purchase receipt on 11/20/20 for a total of $1,003.90. I was immediately restricted and blocked from my accounts before I ever used either account for any transaction whatsoever. Green Dot brought to my attention that due to “suspicious or fraudulent activity” on both accounts, resulted in temporary blocking my accounts and denying access to my money. I then followed precise instructions in your “2 day security verification process” and have still been denied access to my money. It is now 11/27/20 and I still have gotten absolutely zero help from every number, app, and now Facebook Page Green Dot has listed as “customer service.” The Burden of This inconvenience will be brought to my legal counsel if Green Dot won’t give me money or continues to leave this inconvenience my burden.

    Im sick of greendot . they stole my money. One minute u have money next u dont. Then u cant even log into ure own account if ure cards missing. I want my money back

      I am also going through the same thing Green Dot has almost 3,000 of my money they have told me four different times that they were going to send me my money in a check form and I closed out the account I am still waiting they tell me every single day the check is in the mail and that it is the post office’s fault quite frankly I do not believe that I will ever get my money from Green Dot unless I file a lawsuit against them never sent my card or my money what do I do what do I do
