Federal Trade Commission refunds are in the mail from five settlements resolving claims of privacy violations, false advertising and other consumer law violations governed by the FTC.

BetterHelp Refunds FTC refunds

The FTC sent $7.8 million in refunds to users of BetterHelp, MyTherapist, Teen Counseling, Faithful Counseling, Pride Counseling, iCounseling, Regain and Terappeuta whose information the companies wrongfully shared.

According to the FTC, BetterHelp shared user email addresses, IP addresses and health answers with companies such as Facebook, Snapchat, Pinterest and Criteo. BetterHelp allegedly shared this information for advertising purposes after promising to keep the data private.

Consumers who paid for services through BetterHelp websites may receive FTC refunds. Users could receive an automatic PayPal payment to the email address where they received the FTC notice.

Individuals who receive a refund check should cash it within 90 days. Consumers who receive a PayPal payment should accept it within 30 days.

Consumers can direct additional questions about these refunds to the FTC at 1-833-637-4774.

DeVry FTC refunds

The FTC sent a second round of refunds to former DeVry students enrolled in the university between 2008 and 2015.

The FTC claims DeVry University made deceptive claims to prospective students promising them a successful job search and higher earning capacity. According to the FTC, these claims were not based on real evidence and only served to mislead students about the value of DeVry degrees.

The FTC mailed initial refund checks in July 2017, which returned a total of $49 million to DeVry students. With remaining settlement funds, the FTC sent a second round of payments to 5,942 students who did not cash their first payment.

Individuals who receive a refund check should cash it within 90 days.

Consumers can direct additional questions about the DeVry refunds to Analytics Consulting LLC at 1-844-578-2645.

Cycra FTC refunds

The FTC returned $180,000 to consumers who purchased motorcycle, motocross and ATV parts from Cycra.

According to an FTC lawsuit, Cycra falsely advertised its parts as manufactured in the United States when it allegedly imported the parts from Asia and Europe. The FTC argues these false “Made in America” claims tricked consumers into paying more than they otherwise would have.

The FTC reached a $180,000 settlement with Cycra to resolve these claims. Under the terms of the settlement, the FTC provided refunds to eligible consumers. The settlement also banned Cycra from making unqualified “Made in the U.S.” claims going forward.

Individuals who receive a refund check should cash it within 90 days. Consumers who receive a PayPal payment should accept it within 30 days.

Consumers can direct additional questions about the Cycra refunds to Epiq Systems at 1-855-787-8694.

Hubble Contacts FTC refunds

The FTC distributed a second round of refund payments to consumers who purchased Hubble brand contact lenses from Vision Path.

The FTC claimed Vision Path misled consumers when selling contact lenses. Vision Path allegedly failed to verify prescription information and substituted Hubble brand lenses in violation of consumer requests.

In September 2022, the FTC sent more than $1.6 million in refund checks to eligible consumers. Now, with residual funds, the agency sent PayPal payments to consumers who did not cash their original checks.

Consumers who receive a PayPal payment should accept it within 30 days.

Consumers can direct additional questions about the Hubble Contacts FTC refunds to Epiq Systems at 1-855-914-4722.

LasikPlus FTC refunds

The FTC may soon start paying claims from a LasikPlus settlement resolving claims the Lasik surgery center baited consumers with a low promotional price only to make them pay full price.

According to the FTC, LasikPlus and Joffe MediCenter advertised Lasik surgery at a cost of $300 per eye. In reality, most people did not qualify for this price and allegedly wasted time at consultations only to be given a significantly higher quoted price.

The FTC sent claim forms to eligible consumers earlier this year. The FTC accepted claims for this settlement through May 20, 2024. According to the FTC website, the commission is reviewing these claims and expects to distribute funds some time in 2024.

Individuals who receive a refund check should cash it within 90 days. Consumers who receive a PayPal payment should accept it within 30 days.

Consumers can direct additional questions about the Lasik refunds to JND Legal Administration at 1-877-871-0504.

I read your comment about “Class Action Suits and Settlement”. The only ones who actually make out are the lawyers! Companies get slapped on the wrist and pay way less than they should, but still stay in business… I’m still waiting on Metas Class Action Law Settlement. We were supposed to get $400 but that got dropped to $40. According to the Law Firm the amount was reduced because they weren’t aware of how many people would be involved, which is total BS!! META knows exactly how many members they had during the time of the complaint. I’m also positive the lawyers got their full payment.
