Surprised woman looking at phoneVaginal rejuvenation, sometimes called labial rejuvenation, is a type of procedure advertised as being able to treat a variety of vaginal symptoms. The term “vaginal rejuvenation” encompasses procedures advertised to treat a variety of symptoms, including vaginal laxity, pain during sexual intercourse, and vaginal atrophy, dryness, or itching. According to Medical News Today, these things can often occur after a vaginal birth or once a person has gone through menopause.

The FDA has long warned that these procedures have not been approved, nor have they been shown as safe and effective forms of treatment. Instead, vaginal rejuvenation procedures have been associated with serious adverse events.

However, this has not stopped companies from pushing these procedures. Now, ads for labial rejuvenation are reportedly being run all over Instagram, a social media platform heavily used by young people.

Instagram posts are constantly being added to the site promoting vaginal rejuvenation treatment, according to a recent report by Refinery29. These posts may trivialize the extent of these procedures, imply that these procedures are important for vaginal health, normalize the idea of these procedures, and encourage people to be dissatisfied with their vaginas. Younger and younger people are now expressing the desire to get labial rejuvenation, vaginal rejuvenation, or surgical procedures, and this may in part be due to the specific targeting of these age groups online.

Another problem with these posts encourage an immediate decision to have the procedure done. But of course, any procedure should be carefully considered, the pros and cons weighed, and the treatment well-researched. Giving away free cosmetic vaginal rejuvenation procedures in an Instagram post flies in the face of careful consideration.

FDA Warned About Vaginal Rejuvenation

In July 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning about vaginal rejuvenation procedures done with energy-based devices like radiofrequency or laser. The FDA has not cleared or approved any energy-based devices for vaginal rejuvenation treatment. According to the federal agency, the use of these devices “may be associated with serious adverse events.”

The FDA has notified companies marketing these energy-based devices as safe and effective for vaginal rejuvenation procedures that this marketing potentially violates the Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act. The companies have responded with satisfactory amendments to their promotional materials, the FDA says.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has stated that vaginal rejuvenation procedures “are not medically indicated, and the safety and effectiveness of these procedures have not been documented.”

Companies that may be marketing energy-based devices for vaginal rejuvenation treatment include:

  • Venus Concept (Venus Fiore)
  • BTL Industries (Ultra Femme 360)
  • Cynosure (Mona Lisa Touch)
  • Alma Lasers (FEMILIFT)
  • Sciton (diVA)
  • Thermigen (ThermiVA)
  • Inmode MD (FormaV, FactoraV)

Filing a Vaginal Rejuvenation Lawsuit

If you have suffered vaginal rejuvenation side effects like burning, scarring, or pain during sex, you may be able to file a lawsuit and pursue compensation. Of course, filing a lawsuit cannot undo the pain and suffering caused by vaginal rejuvenation side effects, but it can at least help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses, lost wages, and more.

If you or a loved one has undergone vaginal rejuvenation and experienced adverse side effects, including burning, pain, or scarring, you may qualify to join a vaginal rejuvenation class action lawsuit investigation that aims to hold these companies responsible.

Companies who are allegedly marketing vaginal laser rejuvenation with these devices include:

  • Venus Concept – Venus Fiore
  • BTL Industries – Ultra Femme 360
  • Cynosure – Mona Lisa Touch
  • Alma Lasers – FEMILIFT
  • Sciton – diVA
  • Thermigen – ThermiVA
  • Inmode MD – FormaV, FactoraV
