Essure complications abdominal pain stomach painDozens of women have come together to file a lawsuit against Bayer Healthcare over serious Essure side effects.

From across the country, dozens of plaintiffs have jointly filed a lawsuit against Bayer Healthcare over dangerous Essure side effects. The plaintiffs come from California, Pennsylvania and everywhere in between.

According to the Essure lawsuit, the women suffered similar Essure side effects because of implantation with the device, and their experiences are similar enough to warrant a collective lawsuit.

One of the plaintiffs from California, Natacha P., was implanted with the Essure device in September 2013. However, just a short while after undergoing the procedure for the Essure device, Natacha began experiencing pain in her abdominal area and back, weight fluctuation, and pain and heavy bleeding during menstruation.

She then began suffering less physical Essure side effects, including depression and fatigue, for which she began taking antidepressants.

Many of the plaintiffs involved in this lawsuit experienced similar Essure side effects to Natacha’s: menstrual, abdominal, and back pain, heavy bleeding as well as depression and fatigue symptoms.

Some plaintiffs also experienced nausea, vomiting, migraines, difficulty breathing, numbness and pain during intercourse.

The Essure side effects lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including negligent failure to warn, inadequate warnings, manufacturing defect, negligence, breach of express warranty and fraud. Some spouses of the female plaintiffs have also claimed loss of consortium.

What is Essure?

Essure is a popular permanent birth control method and was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) back in 2002. The Essure device consists of two metal coils which are implanted into a patient’s fallopian tubes.

After the initial Essure procedure, it takes two or three months for the coils to become effective, expanding in place and allowing tissue to grow around them. Eventually, this is intended to completely block the fallopian tubes and prevent any pregnancy.

According to Bayer Healthcare advertising and marketing, Essure is a safe and effective method of permanent birth control. Bayer Healthcare has continuously marketed Essure as a safer, simpler and more effective method of permanent birth control than other options currently available to women, lawsuits claim.

The Essure lawsuit alleges that Bayer Healthcare has known from the beginning of the serious Essure side effects linked with their birth control device, but instead of warning patients and the medical community about these dangers, chose to actively withhold this valuable information, placing company profit over patient safety.

Filing an Essure Side Effects Lawsuit

Plaintiffs allege that, had they been adequately informed of these Essure side effects, they would never have been implanted with an Essure birth control device and avoided these risks altogether.

If you or someone you love has suffered from any of these Essure side effects, you may be able to file an Essure lawsuit against Bayer.

The Essure Side Effects Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-01847-CW, in the Superior Court of the State of California in and for the County of Alameda.

In general, Essure lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
