surgeryA growing number of heart surgery patients are coming forward with allegations of contaminated heater cooler devices.

Have you suffered from an infection after undergoing a heart surgery that made use of a Sorin heater cooler device? You may be able to file a Sorin 3T heater cooler lawsuit.

Basics of the Sorin 3T Heater Device

Essentially, heater cooler devices are able to adjust the temperature of a person’s blood and organs. These devices are often used during open heart surgeries. In the progress of the surgery, the heater cooler device regulates the blood and organ temperature, warming and cooling as deemed necessary.

Heater cooler devices are made by a number of manufacturers, but one of the devices often cited in these heater cooler lawsuits is the Sorin 3T heater cooler.

Many patients who have undergone heart surgeries with the use of a heater cooler device have later suffered from serious infections. These patients claim that this infection was directly caused by the use of a contaminated heater cooler device during their surgery.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) also responded with concern about the possibility of contaminated heater cooler devices being used during heart surgery. After receiving reports of this link, the CDC released a warning to consumers about the risk associated with heater cooler devices.

According to the CDC warning, certain heater cooler devices may have become contaminated during the manufacturing process, which places patients exposed to these devices during surgery at risk of developing serious infections. The most concerning of these is nontuberculous mycobacterium, or NTM.

While the CDC noted that the “overall risk of [mycobacterium] infection is low relative to other complications following surgery,” those for whom the infection does present itself can be at serious risk of fatality.

An NTM infection comes with several distinct symptoms. These symptoms include night sweats, aching muscles, joint pain, weight loss, fatigue, and fever.

Symptoms of an NTM infection can remain dormant for weeks to months after surgery and the initial infection before they surface. This time can prevent patients from connecting the dots between the use of a contaminated heart surgery device and subsequent infection, leading to a delayed diagnosis of months or, in some cases, even years.

Filing a Sorin 3T Heater Cooler Lawsuit

Patients who have suffered from an NTM infection after undergoing surgery with a Sorin 3T heater cooler device are beginning to file lawsuits against the device’s manufacturer.

If you or someone you love has suffered from an NTM infection after undergoing heart surgery with the use of a heater cooler device and believe that a contaminated Sorin 3T may have been the cause, you may be able to file a Sorin 3T heater cooler lawsuit.

Filing a Sorin 3T heater cooler lawsuit cannot take away the physical and emotional effects of such a serious infection, but it can help to compensate for the financial costs inevitably incurred by medical expenses and lost wages.
