Your Baby Can Read Class Action Lawsuit

By Matt O’Donnell

Your Baby Can ReadA mother is suing the child-education company Your Baby Can and its founder in a federal class action lawsuit that claims their “Your Baby Can Read!” video program is nothing more than an “elaborate hoax.”

Plaintiff Tondia Johnson claims in the Your Baby Can Read class action lawsuit that the company and founder have defrauded tens of thousands of consumers into believing the video program can teach infants as young as 3 months old to read by as early as 9 months old.

“Defendants have perpetrated this hoax on nearly 1 million consumers, preying upon the vulnerabilities of parents desperate to give their children a head start on life,” the class action states. “Defendants have generated $90 million in annual revenue and spent nearly $37 million to disseminate their false and misleading claims in a television, radio, print and Internet campaign featuring Dr. Titzer, YBC’s founder and spokesman for the Your Baby Can Read! System.”

The YBC class action lawsuit notes that child development experts from Tufts, Harvard, Cornell and other esteemed universities have described Dr. Titzer’s claims that the Your Baby Can Read program can teach infants as young a 3 months old to read by as early as 9 months old as being “false, misleading, and an extraordinary manipulation of facts” that raise false expectations.

The class further adds that even though the company promises a “money back guarantee” within 30 days, the promise is useless because the defendants claim it takes well over 30 days to see any results.

“By the time parents realize that the Your Baby Can Read! System is worthless, they are already five months too late to exercise their 30-day risk-free guarantee,” the lawsuit says.

The Your Baby Can Read class action lawsuit is seeking restitution and punitive damages for deceptive trade, unjust enrichment and breach of contract.

I am so sad to hear this! My son is 3 and living proof that this works! He was reading almost all the cards by 18 months, all by 2 years old and now at 3 he can read full books! He is now on the “Your Child Can Discover” videos and knows tons of new things! There is a place in hell for greedy people like this!

None of the people that have taken shots at YBCR are doing this “out of the goodness of their heart.” YBCR made money and now low-lives are crying “victim” so they can get their hands on it. Nothing less. Nothing more.
Our family uses YBCR and we are very happy with it. Our children not only read the cards that come with the set, but can recognize the words written anywhere. We believe it has also helped them to be stimulated to learn shapes, numbers, colors, etc. outside of the program. We support the program, it’s parent company, and the rights of Americans to develop products that create a better world for our children and produce a smarter child.

The fact that it costs money opens him up to a whole new level of scrutiny and litigation from those who would never raise a hand against free material like “Sponge Bob Square Pants.”
The product has a 30-day money back guarantee. If someone doesn’t like it, within 30 days, they can send it back and get a refund. How long does it take for somebody to figure out if they like a program or not. This company is not scamming anyone. They are selling a good product and some very low people are taking harsh attacks against them for it, in the pursuit of their own economic gains.

God Bless America! Where the entrepreneurial spirit is constantly under attack. This guy, Bob Titzer created a top notch product that is showing amazing results that thousands of parents find amazing, stimulating the economy and is on the forefront of Global Evolution in developing young minds in a healthy direction. Let’s sue the bastard. Oh, did I forget to mention, he had the audacity, nay, the criminality to actually want to turn a profit for his work in providing relevant, intellectual and training material that parents can use as a supplement to educate their children.

I feel this class action suit is ridiculous! As an educator myself, I feel that the content could be more engaging however, I have noticed that with my own son, he has made several strides in recognizing words and communication. Anyone that buys this program and expects to just turn on the DVD and that’s it, is fooling themself. The entire program calls for parents to not just watch the videos but also to work with their child. Imagine that, lazy parents having to put forth an effort.

Well, my thought on this is that the parent should be involved in guiding your child’s learning every step of the way. I believe the system works. Don’t expect miracles to happen overnight because parents have to be involved as well.

Lawsuit for the system to be false or hoax — Not a good idea..
Lawsuit for 30 days money back guarantee — good idea because they are really ripping the consumer..

I love the Your Baby Can Read videos as does my son. We use them along side with Signing Time which teaches American Sign Language. As many of the words are the same its a double lesson. He is 19 months old now and can say many of the words before the picture comes as well as sign the words. When learning videos are used as learning TOOLS and not the teacher anything is possible. All in all it takes time to teach your child anything but these videos are great. When I bought the videos I did not believe that my son would speak at 9 months, let alone read at 9 months. I did believe that an introduction to words whether by books or video was only going to further his communication skills. And it has.

I would like to say that any learning program, is a god program. Spending one on one time with your children teaching them to read or whatever, is good. I never believed that the product would teach my child to read by nine months. However, my son does recognize the words and understands their meanings before i even show him the pictures. THe program doesn’t miraculously teach your child to read, rather it gives parents an opportunity to teach their children, and have a little guidance for those who don’t know where to start with their kids. I love this program and my son loves it as well. He is now 15 months and tries very hard to pronounce the words. It has taught me how to teach my kids and you can’t put a price tag on time with your children.

It’s not surprising Ms. Johnson is trying to get money from a company she clearly emphasizes has profited from its product. It is sad, however, because many people have had a GREAT experience with the product. I don’t believe it is bogus or a hoax…when used properly, I believe the product is a benefit. I feel sorry for Ms. Johnson and her child(ren) that apparently did not benefit from the product. Filing a lawsuit is just ridiculous and an even greater waste of money.

I agree my daughter was reading words from the cards at 10 months granted she was my first child and I’m a stay at he mom who did not allow her to watch any other tv programs at the time it does work but you the parent must put in alot of work! But point blank yes it DOES teach babies to read! No you can just sit them in front of the TV and expect in 5 months they will be reading but by following the directions and using all elements of the system it does work.
