Pharmaceutical giants Johnson & Johnson and Bayer AG face a man’s recent Xarelto bleeding side effects lawsuit in Louisiana federal court alleging he suffered severe adverse effects and complications from taking the anticoagulant medication.

Plaintiff Dudley K., a resident and citizen of the state of Texas, files the Xarelto bleeding side effects lawsuit joining a growing multidistrict litigation (MDL) against the company. The lawsuit was filed on May 17, 2018.

According to the Xarelto bleeding side effects lawsuit, Dudley used Xarelto (rivaroxaban) for his treatment of atrial fibrillation and prophylaxis. He says he began using Xarelto in or around March 2010 until June 30, 2016. However, he alleges it was on June 30, 2016, that he experienced a life-threatening bleeding event, the Xarelto bleeding side effects lawsuit states.

Dudley says that through his suffering of the life-threatening and irreversible bleeding event that required blood transfusions, he sustained “severe and permanent personal injuries, pain, suffering, and emotional distress.”

According to the Xarelto bleeding side effects lawsuit, Dudley suffered serious and dangerous side effects that include “life-threatening bleeding, as well as other severe and personal injuries which are permanent and lasting in nature, physical pain and mental anguish, diminished enjoyment of life, and financial expenses for hospitalization and medical care.”

The Xarelto bleeding side effects lawsuit was filed on multiple counts including negligence, strict liability for defective product, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty, fraudulent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, negligent misrepresentation, fraud and deceit, violation of Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act, and punitive damages.

Dudley demands a trial by jury.

Overview: Xarelto Bleeding Side Effects

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) was approved in 2011 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It is prescribed to help reduce risks of strokes, pulmonary embolism (PE), blood clots, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). It may also be prescribed post knee and hip surgeries to help prevent blood clots and functions by inhibiting proteins that contribute to blood clotting.

However, Xarelto does cause severe internal bleeding side effects, and there are currently 18,000 pending Xarelto lawsuits because of this side effect. One of these reasons is because whereas other anticoagulant medications may have an antidote to stop severe internal bleeding side effects, Xarelto had no such antidote until very recently.

There have also been a variety of adverse side effects and complications associated with Xarelto that have included: gastrointestinal, retinal, and cranial hemorrhaging, stroke; excessive blood loss; adrenal bleeding; epidural hematoma; and wound infection and complication.

Accusations against Xarelto’s manufacturers include them of having known of Xarelto’s severe internal bleeding side effects but of failing to report, warn, and disclose this pertinent information to patients and the medical community. Accusations against the companies also claim that physicians were urged to prescribe Xarelto without conclusive and proper information of risks for the development of life-threatening complications.

The Xarelto Bleeding Side Effects Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-05005, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The Xarelto MDL is In re: Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2592, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
