Wrinkle Cream Product Manufacturers Accused of False Advertising

By Anne Bucher

false advertising of wrinkle cream proudctsIt seems that consumers are always on the lookout for a “fountain of youth” that will keep them looking young. The cosmetic industry has jumped on this bandwagon and has been coming up with products that claim to reduce the signs of aging by minimizing the appearance of fine lines, age spots and wrinkles. While many consumers are willing to shell out big bucks for these anti-aging products, they often find that the products deliver little to no benefit.

The manufacturers of these anti-aging products often tout their products as being able to “reduce the appearance of wrinkles” or “improve the appearance of aging skin.” Their labels may include dubious claims that the anti-aging benefits are supported by clinical studies, luring the customers into purchasing the products. As consumers wise up to the false claims made by the manufacturers, they have begun to fight back to hold them accountable for their advertising.

The High Cost of Anti-Aging Products

The Dr. Brant “Pores No More” Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion is advertised as a “fast absorbing, oil-free, anti-aging lotion with apple stem cells.” The product’s website claims that the lotion helps “delay the natural signs of aging by maintaining the longevity and activity of stem cells in the skin.” The website also indicates that 100 percent of people who used the product during a four-week clinical trial “reported improvement in the appearance of lines and wrinkles.” A 1.7-ounce bottle of this lotion costs $60.

When compared to other anti-aging products, “Pores No More” may be considered to be a bargain. Other anti-aging products cost hundreds of dollars for a small bottle. A 1-ounce bottle of Sunday Riley “Stimulant I” Perfecting Serum costs $295. The Swiss Apple Stem Cell Serum from Emerge Labs costs $120 for a 1.12-ounce bottle.

Despite the high cost, numerous consumers have purchased the products with the hopes of maintaining a youthful appearance. They justify the extra expense by relying on the claims of clinical studies and research supporting the near-miraculous abilities of the products. Understandably, the consumers are upset when they find out that the products have been ineffective.

Learn More about Your Legal Options

By luring them in with promises of younger-looking skin, the manufacturers of anti-aging products have convinced consumers to pay a premium for products that do not actually work as advertised. As consumers catch on to the companies’ false and deceptive advertising tactics, many have opted to take legal action. They claim that they were duped into purchasing overpriced cosmetics that do not deliver the anti-aging benefits that were promised. Consumers who purchase ineffective anti-aging products may be eligible to join a class action lawsuit against the product manufacturers. These class action lawsuits can lead to products being removed from stores, changes to the product advertising and reimbursement for the defective product.

If you purchased an anti-aging product and did not see the promised results, you may be able to take legal action against the manufacturer.
