viagra-skin-cancerA wrongful death lawsuit was recently filed following the death of a Minnesota man who allegedly died from Viagra skin cancer. His widow filed the Viagra skin cancer lawsuit claiming that Pfizer failed to warn users about the potentially fatal Viagra side effects.

Plaintiff Juliene W. filed the Viagra wrongful death lawsuit this April which was two years after her husband, John, died from melanoma skin cancer. The Viagra skin cancer lawsuit states that the deceased used the drug for multiple years proceeding his death.

Since 1998, John used Viagra as well as Cialis to treat erectile dysfunction. In 2009, he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma skin cancer. Melanoma is one of three kinds of skin cancer. While it is the rarest form, it is the most lethal. John was diagnosed when his condition was already at stage IV. His Viagra melanoma had spread beyond the skin at this point and was considered terminal.

The Viagra skin cancer wrongful death lawsuit alleges, “If [John] had known the risks and dangers associated with taking Viagra, [he] would have elected not to take Viagra and, consequently, would not have experienced its serious side effects.” The plaintiff also claims that Pfizer was aware that melanoma skin cancer could be one of Viagra side effects and failed to warn about this risk. This may have prevented many consumers from monitoring for the disease which can be a useful tool in finding a diagnosis before it reaches stage IV, as it did with John.

The Viagra skin cancer lawsuit also noted several studies that were performed which suggested that Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs may cause melanoma skin cancer. One study suggested that Viagra increased this risk by as much as 84%. Some debate has proceeded from this suggestion as the study deemed the evidence not concrete enough to make a definite claim.

About Viagra

The popular little blue pill is used by millions of men to treat erectile dysfunction and has been used since its introduction to the market in 1998. Erectile dysfunction is typically a natural side effect of aging, but it has been suggested that Pfizer has marketed Viagra to a wider population of men who may not truly need the drug. This has caused countless individuals to be at risk for Viagra melanoma skin cancer.

Viagra supposedly causes melanoma skin cancer by hindering the body from fighting off the cancer cells that develop into the potentially deadly skin cancer.

Many men have chosen to filed Viagra skin cancer lawsuits following a melanoma diagnosis. Many wrongful death lawsuits, in addition to the one filed by Juliene, have been filed against Pfizer that accuse the company of negligence, strict liability, fraudulent concealment, and many other damages.

The Viagra Skin Cancer Wrongful Death Lawsuit is Case No. 0:15-cv-02048 filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
