Werner has issued a recall for more than 122,000 of its Multi-Max Pro Multi-Purpose Ladders, citing a fall hazard due to a malfunctioning locking mechanism.

The recall, announced on Aug. 14, affects ladders sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and online from November 2021 through February 2024.

The ladders are silver with a blue top and a blue label on the side rail, featuring the words “Werner” and “MULTI MAX PRO” along with model numbers ALMP-20IAA or ALMP-24IAA. They also have a distinctive long black rope in the back section.

“The ladders’ locking mechanism can jam and not fully lock into place, posing a fall hazard,” the recall notice states. The ladders were priced between $200 and $281 and were manufactured in China.

Werner recall reports falls and injuries due to faulty mechanism

The recall notice highlights that Werner has received 18 reports of falls due to the locking mechanism issue, resulting in 14 injuries, including bruising, lacerations, head injuries and fractures to the wrist, leg and ribs.

The recall advised consumers to stop using the ladders immediately and contact Werner for a full refund.

Customers should register on Werner’s website to receive instructions on how to properly dispose of the recalled ladder. Once disposal is confirmed, Werner will issue a refund in the form of a check.

For more information, consumers can contact Werner toll-free at 888-624-1907 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email at [email protected] or visit the recall webpage.

Werner is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Recently, Winston Products announced a recall of about 3.6 million HydroTech 5/8-inch Expandable Burst-Proof Hoses due to a burst hazard, with 222 reports of bursting hoses, leading to 29 injuries.
