Great Value recall overview:

  • Who: JM Smucker Co. is recalling a Great Value-brand Cheese Danish product and Great Value Cinnamon Rolls product.
  • Why: The recall was initiated over a potential plastic contamination after plastic pieces were found in the products.
  • Where: The Great Value recall affects certain consumers nationwide.

The JM Smucker Co. is recalling 2,027 cases of Great Value-brand Cheese Danish product and 1,602 cases of its Great Value Cinnamon Rolls product over a potential plastic contamination.

The recall was initiated after JM Smucker found pieces of plastic in the products, according to a recall event published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA said JM Smucker voluntarily initiated the recall Nov. 1 and that it has been classified as a Class II recall, meaning consuming the products could result in a slight chance of serious health problems or death. The recall was classified as a Class II recall on Nov. 19.

Recalled Great Value bakery items sold in 12 retail units per case

The recall includes Great Value Cheese Danish 16.5 oz with a Universal Product Code (UPC) of 078742201177 and sold in 12 retail units per case and Great Value Cinnamon Rolls 16.5 oz with a UPC of 07842201160 and sold in 12 retail units per case.

National Sourcing International issued a separate recall involving a Great Value product earlier this year with a recall for one lot of its 32-ounce Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds with an expiration date of Oct. 30, 2026.

The recalled Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds, which are sold at Walmart, were recalled over concerns they may have been contaminated with salmonella.
