Volkswagen Group of America issued a recall for more than 170,000 model year 2024-2025 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles over concerns that the engine cover could come loose.
The recall involves 115,310 Volkswagen Atlas vehicles produced between June 16, 2023, and Dec. 12, 2024, and 62,183 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles produced between June 16, 2023, and Dec. 9, 2024.
Volkswagen attributed the issue to improper installation and said it is concerned that a loose engine cover could come in contact with hot engine surfaces, posing a fire risk.
“A loose engine cover that contacts hot surfaces in the engine compartment can melt, increasing the risk of a fire,” the Volkswagen Atlas recall says.
Volkswagen to remove recalled Atlas vehicles’ engine covers free of charge
Volkswagen said it expects to mail owner notification letters by April 18, 2025, and plans to remedy the issue by having its dealers remove the engine cover in the recalled vehicles, free of charge.
Individuals with more questions about the recall can contact Volkswagen customer service by phone at 800-893-5298 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.
In other Volkswagen-related news, a group of five Volkswagen and Audi drivers filed a class action lawsuit against the automakers in 2024 over claims they sold vehicles with dangerous defects without informing consumers.

I have a 2024 Atlas & I was parking, (of course I had my foot on the break) stopped turned the engine off and it cranked back up, causing the car to jump forward into the side of my moms garage. Has anyone had that happen?
I agree with Wayne Davis, it would have been more appropriate to provide a replacement cover that is properly designed to be held securely in place and not fail in any way. VW should be held more accountable.
Please add me as well because mine is even extra one more issue which is airbag is not working for passenger side and VW is trying to find solution already 1 year and when I ask help or if they can give me temporary vehicle but they didn’t anyway VW is suck
Add me
The fix is the remove the cover free of charge? How about a replacement cover…I bought the car with a cover over the engine and that’s what I want, not just to “remove.” The cover is not just for cosmetic purposes, it is a engine noise silencer as well. VW has a bad solution, I am NOT happy. 2024 Atlas Crossport.
I have a 2019 r line, kept smelling burnt oil. Took it to get an oil change, found out that the engine cap was loose and oil was leaking all over the engine. That was scary. They did change it for free since it was still under warranty, than God
Sold me a Volkswagen Atlas. Got home no engine cover.
Called them then they told me about fire hazard.
