The Navy veteran is filing this asbestos mesothelioma lawsuitagainst CBS Corporation and other manufacturing companies, for allegedly providing dangerous products composed of asbestos.

Plaintiff Michael D. is filing this asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit against the supply manufacturers, alleging the companies either knew or should have known about the risks associated with potential asbestos exposure.

Michael had reportedly served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964 as a Seaman, Fireman, and Machinist Mate, in which he was allegedly exposed to asbestos fibers.

Michael also may have been exposed to asbestos from 1969 to 1998, when he worked for the City of New York as a fireman, wiper, assistant engineer, and chief engineer.

At both employment time periods, Michael says he may have been subjected to asbestos exposure but was not aware of the danger until years after his retirement. Due to the alleged regular asbestos exposure, Michael was diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Overview of Asbestos Mesothelioma Lawsuit

Mesothelioma is a very rare form of lung cancer, specifically caused by asbestos exposure. This disease forms when asbestos fibers are inhaled in the lungs and becomes lodged in the mucus lining of the lungs and chest wall.

Mesothelioma can take up to 50 years before the disease progresses to a stage where it exhibits any symptoms, resulting in many late diagnoses and limited treatment options. Michael opted to file the asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit after discovering the companies may have known or should have known about the dangers of their asbestos-containing products.

The manufacturers named in the asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit had allegedly provided insulation and other components to the machines Michael worked with during his employment.

The dangers of asbestos exposure have been well documented. Medical researchers noticed a potential cancer association as early as 1935. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) later proclaimed that lung cancer was the greatest health risk for Americans who work with asbestos.

When asbestos is not disturbed, it does not present a significant health threat. However, when fibers are inhaled or swallowed, the fibers can become lodged in the stomach or lungs and eventually cause asbestos cancer.

Asbestos mesothelioma and lung disease have become prevalent concerns in United States military veterans, who were allegedly exposed to asbestos on a regular basis during their service. Numerous Navy vessels were reportedly composed of asbestos components in their piping and insulation, forcing Navy soldiers into close contact with the fibers.

Asbestos was popularly used for insulation and other manufacturing purposes before the 1980s, due to its chemical and fire resistant qualities. In addition, asbestos was also a cheap material for companies to use so was utilized for a barrage of construction and manufacturing purchases.

Manufacturing companies across the country are facing serious legal backlash for allegedly failing to warn Navy veterans and other victims against asbestos exposure. Michael states that the companies never provided any protective equipment, nor did they warn him against potential mesothelioma development.

This Asbestos Mesothelioma Lawsuit is Case No. 1:17-cv-07232-WHP, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
