Friendly’s recall overview:

  • Who: DFA Dairy Brands LLC is recalling 324 cartons of Friendly’s Cookies & Cream Ice Cream.
  • Why: The recall is due to undeclared soy and wheat allergens.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States, specifically in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

DFA Dairy Brands is recalling a limited quantity of Friendly’s Cookies & Cream Ice Cream due to the presence of undeclared soy and wheat allergens.

The recall affects 324 cartons of the product, which were mistakenly packaged in Friendly’s Vanilla Bean ice cream cartons with a Cookies & Cream lid. The error poses a significant risk to individuals with soy or wheat allergies, as consuming the product could lead to severe allergic reactions.

The recall was announced on August 5 and published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on August 6. The affected product is packaged in 48 fl. oz. cartons with a best-by date of Nov. 26, 2025.

According to the recall notice, the ice cream was distributed through UNFI to retail stores in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. The recall was initiated after the company discovered the packaging error, which failed to list soy and wheat as ingredients.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy and/or wheat run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the recall notice says.

Consumers urged to return affected Friendly’s ice cream for refund

The recall notice emphasizes the importance of returning the affected ice cream to the place of purchase for a full refund.

“Consumers who have purchased 48 fl. oz. Friendly’s Vanilla Bean ice cream containers with a Cookies & Cream lid can return it to their place of purchase for a full refund,” the recall notice states.

The FDA has been involved in monitoring the recall process, ensuring that the public and other companies in the supply chain are informed about the potential health hazard.

DFA Dairy Brands is taking proactive steps to address the issue by offering refunds to affected consumers. The company is also working closely with the FDA to manage the recall process and prevent any further distribution of the mislabeled product.

For more information about the recall, consumers can contact DFA Dairy Brands at 800-587-2259.

DFA Dairy Brands says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Earlier, Totally Cool faced a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to disclose that its ice cream products may have been contaminated with listeria.
