viagraStudies have found that Viagra may cause serious melanoma skin cancer side effects in addition to other cancer dangers. One Viagra study found an increase in melanoma cases in men who used Viagra or other erectile dysfunction drugs. Another Viagra study found that men who previously had prostate cancer were more likely to experience a recurrence if they used Viagra.

Viagra (sildenafil citrate) is one of the most popular drugs in the nation. Since 1988, it has dominated the erectile dysfunction medication field. Now, Cialis and other erectile dysfunction drugs are on the market, competing with Viagra’s popularity. However, it has been suggested that all new erectile dysfunction drugs may carry the same if not greater melanoma skin cancer risks as Viagra.

Melanoma is one of three types of skin cancer. Though it only makes up of 2 percent of all skin cancer cases, it has the highest fatality rate. Melanoma cancer is treatable if caught early.

Countless men have used Viagra to treat erectile dysfunction. While it can help with maintaining an erection, Viagra does not “heal” anything. Erectile dysfunction may simply be a side effect of aging or stress; it is also not a condition that is harmful to physical health. The question that follows is simply: does the risk of Viagra side effects outweigh the benefit? While the current studies are not conclusive enough to warrant a recall, Pfizer Inc. could be liable for damages if the statistics found in Viagra side effects studies are confirmed.

Viagra Studies

Viagra side effects have been widely discussed since the Viagra skin cancer studies were published. One study published in the April edition of JAMA Internal Medicine suggested that men who used Viagra were 84 percent more likely to experience Viagra side effects such as skin cancer.

The second Viagra cancer study was published in January in The Journal of Urology. This Viagra side effects study found that men who previously had prostate cancer were 38 percent more likely to have their cancer return.

Viagra melanoma and other cancer side effects are allegedly caused by the fact that Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs are PDE5A (phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor) drugs. It is believed that this biological component of Viagra allows tumors to grow and even flourish in the body.

Both Viagra side effects studies had strong indications concerning cancer safety, but researchers have stated that additional research is required in order to make a more definitive claim.

Viagra Lawsuits

Due to the high number of Viagra melanoma skin cancer cases, some have wondered why the label has not been changed to include the risk of cancer Viagra side effects. When considering the fact that skin monitoring is the best way to diagnose melanoma early (and thus treat it before it becomes deadly), it is surprising that Pfizer has not warned users about Viagra side effects. This new Viagra study on prostate cancer recurrence could add to the number of Viagra lawsuits filed.
