TurboTax Class Action Settlement Recap

The TurboTax settlement resolves a February 2013 class action lawsuit accusing Intuit Inc. of violating California and federal consumer protection laws by charging exorbitantly high fees for the “free” online edition of TurboTax if they chose to defer their TurboTax fees, opting instead to have the fees deducted from their tax refund. Intuit denied the allegations but agreed to a $6.55 million class action settlement to resolve the litigation.

A federal judge approved the Intuit TurboTax class action settlement in October 2013. Class Members included U.S. consumers who used Intuit’s TurboTax Online and utilized the Refund Processing Service from and including Jan. 12, 2008 through May 28, 2013.

The deadline to file a claim was Oct. 28, 2013.

Heel Class Action Settlement Recap

The Heel settlement resolves 2013 class action lawsuit alleging that Heel Inc. overstated the effectiveness of its homeopathic products. Heel denied the allegations but agreed to a $1 million class action settlement to resolve the allegations.

A California federal judge approved the Heel homeopathic class action settlement in June 2014, allowing consumers who purchased Heel homeopathic products between Dec. 21, 2008 and Feb. 5, 2014 to claim cash awards ranging from $25 to $150.
