Tri-Union Seafoods has issued a recall for certain Genova Yellowfin Tuna products due to a risk of contamination with Clostridium botulinum.
The canned tuna recall affects products distributed in nine states across various retailers, including Meijer, Giant Foods, Safeway, Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions.
The recall was announced on Jan. 16, after it was discovered that quarantined products from a previous recall in February 2025 were inadvertently distributed by a third-party distributor.
The affected products include Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil and Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Sea Salt, with UPC numbers 4800073265 and 4800013275, respectively. The recalled Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil has “Best if Used By” dates of Jan. 21 and 24, 2028, while the affected Genova Yellowfin Tuna in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Sea Salt has “Best if Used By” date of Jan. 17, 2028.
According to the canned tuna recall, a manufacturing defect in the can’s seal could allow harmful bacteria to grow.
