Several popular companies, retailers and manufacturers announced recalls for products that may pose a risk of injury to consumers. Here are Top Class Actions’ top recalls for the week of Oct. 7.

Hannaford announces recall for fresh salads, pastas

Hannaford supermarket issued a recall for several fresh salads and pasta meals due to potential listeria contamination.

The recall, which Hannaford announced Oct. 2, affects specific products sold in the store’s produce and deli departments, including popular items like Fiesta Salad with Chicken, Cobb Salad with Chicken and Bacon, and Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken. Hannaford sold these products Sept. 23-Oct. 1, 2024.

Although no illnesses have been reported, Hannaford removed the potentially affected items from shelves “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the recall notice.

As one of last week’s top recalls, Hannaford urges customers to check their refrigerators and freezers for these salads and pasta meals, the recall notice states. Customers who purchased any of the recalled products are advised not to consume them and can return the items to their local Hannaford store for a full refund.

Fiat issues recall for 15K+ Spider vehicles due to air bag defect

Stellantis announced a recall for certain 2017-2020 Fiat 124 Spider vehicles due to a software error in the airbag control module.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published the recall Sept. 18. It affects 15,835 vehicles. According to the notice, this software issue could cause the front airbags to deploy with excessive force during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

The recall also highlights that the vehicles are not in compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, which mandates specific safety criteria for crash protection. To resolve this design flaw, Stellantis says it will update the airbag control module software at no cost to owners and mail notification letters by Nov. 7, 2024, the recall notice states.

Recall announced for Jeep vehicles due to fire risk

Stellantis North America issued a recall for certain Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid electric vehicles due to a potential fire risk.

The recall, published Sept. 27 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affects 154,032 vehicles from model years 2020-2024 for the Wrangler and 2022-2024 for the Grand Cherokee.

The issue stems from battery packs that may contain cells prone to separator damage, which could cause the high voltage batteries to fail and potentially lead to a fire whether the vehicle is parked or in motion, the recall notice states.

An investigation initiated in June after multiple reports of fires in these Jeep models prompted the recall. Stellantis advises owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures and to avoid recharging them until repairs are made, as depleted batteries reduce the risk of fire, according to the recall notice. Dealers will update the battery pack software and replace the battery pack assembly if needed at no cost to the owners.

Mazda initiates recall for Miatas due to potential airbag issue

Mazda is recalling more than 77,000 MX-5 Miata vehicles from model years 2016-2023 due to concerns that the airbags may deploy with more force than expected in minor crashes.

This issue could increase the risk of airbag-related injuries, particularly if a passenger is not wearing a seatbelt, the recall notice states

To resolve the issue, Mazda will have its dealers reprogram the Sophisticated Air Bag Sensor control module in the affected vehicles, according to the recall notice. Vehicles not included in the recall already have the updated software.

Mazda says it expects to mail notification letters to affected vehicle owners by Nov. 17, 2024, the recall notice says.

Nissan announces recall for Leaf vehicles due to quick charge issue

Nissan North America recalled 24,000 model year 2019-2020 Nissan Leaf electric vehicles due to concerns that their batteries could overheat.

The recall affects certain models equipped with a Level 3 quick charging port, with the automaker identifying the quick-charge lithium-ion batteries as the source of the issue. According to the Nissan recall notice, these batteries may overheat during Level 3 quick charging, significantly increasing the risk of a fire.

As a precaution, Nissan advises owners of the affected Leaf vehicles to avoid using Level 3 quick charging until the issue is resolved. The automaker says it plans to address the problem by updating the battery software at no cost to customers, the recall notice says.

Nissan says it will begin notifying affected vehicle owners in mid-October with a follow-up notice expected in November once the remedy is available.
