Recall announced for Nutramigen infant powder due to potential bacteria contamination

Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition issued a recall for specific lots of its Nutramigen infant powder in 12.6- and 19.8-ounce cans due to potential contamination with Ccronobacter sakazakii.

Contamination most likely occurred in cans tested outside the United States, and further testing has shown no presence of bacteria, the recall notice states.

Cronobacter sakazakii poses severe health risks, including life-threatening infections such as sepsis or meningitis, with symptoms ranging from poor feeding and irritability to temperature changes, jaundice, grunting breaths and abnormal movements.

The affected Nutramigen infant powder includes 12.6-ounce cans with batch codes ZL3FHG, ZL3FMH, ZL3FPE, ZL3FQD and ZL3FXJ, as well as 19.8-ounce cans with batch code ZL3FRW. These cans have a UPC Code of 300871239418 or 300871239456 and a use-by date of Jan. 1, 2025.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall. Consumers should dispose of the product and can contact Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition at 866-534-9986 or via email at [email protected] for a refund.

Vornado expands steam iron recall to include 1.75M more units

Vornado expanded its recall of dual-voltage Steamfast brand Home and Away Travel Steam Irons, encompassing approximately 1.75 million units in the United States and an additional 9,000 in Canada. The affected steam irons have model nos. SF-717, SF-720 and SF-727.

This extension follows 74 reported incidents related to the recall. Eighteen additional reports specifically cited issues with the iron’s power cord, such as smoking, sparking, catching fire or overheating at the power cord.

No injuries have been reported to date, but Vornado urges consumers to cease using the recalled irons immediately. Affected consumers should visit the Steamfast or Vornado website to register and claim a refund of $19.99.

Blue Ridge Beef recalls pet food due to potential listeria, salmonella contamination

Blue Ridge Beef initiated a recall of specific lots of its 2-pound pet food products due to potential contamination with salmonella and listeria.

The recall includes the 2-pound versions of Kitten Grind, Kitten Mix and Puppy Mix. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture identified the issue on Dec. 15 when one lot of each product tested positive for listeria and salmonella.

The affected kitten food lots include N24 1114 to N24 1224 of the 2-pound logs of Kitten Grind with UPC 8 54298 00101 6 and Kitten Mix with UPC 8 54298 00143 6. The recalled puppy food, Puppy Mix with UPC 8 54298 00169 6, falls within the same lot range.

Salmonella and listeria pose risks to both pets and humans handling the food, particularly if owners do not observe proper handwashing practices. Symptoms in infected animals may include lethargy, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.

Blue Ridge Beef has not received any reports of illness related to the recall, but consumers are encouraged to contact the company for a full refund at [email protected] or reach out to Steven Lea at 704-880-4500 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday.

Brands recall magnetic balls due to ingestion hazard

Two brands initiated separate recalls for magnetic ball products due to concerns the toys do not comply with mandatory federal magnet regulations, mainly due to their size and strength.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning highlighting the potential ingestion hazard posed by these magnetic balls, emphasizing the risk of them becoming lodged in a user’s digestive system if swallowed.

The recalls involve Colorful Metal Neodymium Magic Magnetic Balls sold by XpressGoods and high-powered magnetic balls sold exclusively at walmart.com through Joybuy Marketplace Express.

While there have been no reported injuries associated with the recalled magnetic balls, the CPSC notes that between 2017 and 2021, hospital emergency rooms treated approximately 2,400 cases of magnet ingestion, resulting in seven deaths, including two outside the U.S.

Consumers should stop using the recalled magnetic balls, keep them away from children and contact XpressGoods directly for a prepaid label to facilitate the return of the product.

XpressGoods sold these magnetic balls on its website from July 2021 through May 2022 for around $30. The second recall involves about 4,240 Relax 5mm Science Kit, Large Hematite Magnets Magnetic Stones Building Blocks sold on walmart.com through Joybuy. Consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact Joybuy to receive a pre-paid label for returning the magnetic balls.

FeraDyne Outdoors tree stand recalled due to safety concerns

FeraDyne Outdoors initiated a recall affecting approximately 50,000 Rhino tree stands due to concerns about the safety harnesses’ stitching, which may rip, posing a fall hazard.

There have been no reported injuries associated with the product to date, but consumers are urged to cease using the recalled tree stands immediately and contact the company to receive instructions on obtaining a replacement safety harness.

To facilitate the replacement process, consumers are required to provide proof of the original safety harness’s destruction before FeraDyne will ship the replacement safety harness free of charge. FeraDyne sold the recalled tree stands, priced between $110 and $360, on various platforms, including Amazon and other websites, as well as through retailers such as Dick’s Merchandising & Supply and Orscheln Farm & Home.
