March recalls overview:

  • Who: Volkswagen, GM, Kia, Columbus Trading Partners, Danone US and the FDA have issued recalls recently.
  • Why: The recalls concern risks posed by several major vehicle models, a child car seat, a coffee creamer and six acne treatment products.
  • Where: All recalls affect consumers nationwide.

From fire risks in popular SUVs to cancer concerns in acne treatments, a wave of high-stakes product recalls hit the U.S. market in March. Major automakers like Volkswagen, GM, and Kia pulled hundreds of thousands of vehicles due to safety defects, while the FDA flagged everyday consumer goods, including a widely used coffee creamer and child car seats, as potential health hazards.

These recalls highlight the importance of staying informed to protect yourself and your family. Below are the most significant recalls from March that every consumer should know about.

Volkswagen recalls more than 170K Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport vehicles over fire risk

Volkswagen Group of America issued a recall for more than 170,000 model-year 2024-2025 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles in February over concerns the vehicles’ engine covers could come loose, posing a fire risk

The automaker identified that a fire risk could occur if a loose engine cover were to come into contact with hot engine surfaces.

“A loose engine cover that contacts hot surfaces in the engine compartment can melt, increasing the risk of a fire,” the Volkswagen Atlas recall says.

Volkswagen agreed to a settlement late last year to resolve claims that certain Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles had defective front door wiring harnesses.

A group of Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport drivers also filed a class action against the automaker in October 2025 over claims their vehicles had defective braking systems.

Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC Sierra vehicles recalled due to accident  risk issue

General Motors (GM) issued a recall for more than 90,000 Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles in early March concerning possible defective transmissions

The recall involves certain model year 2019-2020 Cadillac CT6, 2020-2021 CT4, CT5, and model year 2020-2022 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles equipped with a 10-speed transmission.

GM said it is concerned the issue could cause the front wheels of the recalled Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles to lock while driving, increasing the risk of an accident.

The automaker issued a separate recall in early February 2025 for more than 70,000 model-year 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. The concern was that one or more of the attachments holding the front upper grille deflector in place could fracture over time.

“A detached front grille deflector may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash,” the GM grille deflector recall says.

The recall involved certain model-year 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a chrome front grill deflector and produced between Nov. 9, 2021, and Sept. 29, 2022.

Kia recalls more than 137K Seltos, Soul vehicles over engine damage concerns

Kia issued a recall in February for more than 137,000 model-year 2021-2023 Kia Seltos and Soul vehicles for potential engine damage that could increase the risk of a crash or injury.

The automaker attributed the recall to defective piston oil rings that could lead to engine damage, causing vehicles to stall or catch fire and “increasing the risk of a crash or injury.”

A consumer also filed a class action lawsuit in early March against Kia over claims it knowingly sold defective model-year 2021-2023 Kia Soul and Seltos vehicles that could result in engine failure and potential fire.

Aton recalls car child seats due to unsafe harness straps

Columbus Trading Partners issued a recall in February for several makes of its Aton car seats over concerns that their harness straps could break, posing a risk of injury to children.

The recall involves certain Cybex Aton G, Aton G SensorSafe, Aton G Swivel, Aton G Swivel SensorSafe, Eos and Aton G Swivel Travel System, and Eos and Aton G Travel System car seats.

Columbus Trading Partners said it is concerned that a harness strap detaching could cause whiplash or other neck injuries to children strapped into the seat.

“In the event of a vehicle crash, the detached harness would not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the occupant’s risk of injury,” the recall says.

International Delight coffee creamer recall cites reports of spoilage and illness

Danone US issued a recall for more than 75,000 of its International Delight coffee creamer products in late February after the company received complaints of spoilage, along with illness, from consumers.

The recall involves certain Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll International Delight coffee creamer and Hazelnut International Delight coffee creamer with “best by” dates of July 3, 2025, and July 2, 2025, respectively, that were distributed to 31 states.

The Food and Drug Administration issed a Class II recall, meaning product consumption could cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, with adverse health consequences classified as “remote.”

FDA recalls six acne treatment products due to elevated levels of benzene

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a recall in March for six acne treatment products containing benzoyl peroxide due to elevated levels of benzene, a chemical linked to cancer.

The recalled products concern: (1) a  lot of Walgreens Acne Control Cleanser, SLMD Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Lotion, L’Oreal La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Dual Action Acne Treatment, Walgreens Tinted Acne Treatment Cream and Proactiv Skin Smoothing Exfoliator, (2) two lots of Proactiv Emergency Blemish Relief Cream Benzoyl Peroxide 5%.

Benzene has been at the center of multiple class action lawsuits in recent times.

In March 2024, a consumer filed a class action lawsuit against L’Oreal claiming the company’s La Roche-Posay benzoyl peroxide acne treatment contained benzene

Also in March of the same year, a class action alleged Alchemee and Taro Pharmaceuticals’ Proactiv acne products contained benzoyl peroxide that could degrade into the carcinogen benzene.

Additionally, there were class action lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson, Target and Walgreens Boots Alliance over claims they sold benzoyl peroxide acne products containing dangerous levels of benzene

  1. Elizabeth Ho says:

I have used several L’Oreal products, many wrinkle creams and they all gave me some kind of reaction and or burning affect. I notified L’Oreal Paris and after submitting a BBB complaint they reached out to me (they are not BBB acredited). The lady on the phone stated she apologizes that I had a reaction and if I would send her the lot numbers of the products she would ensure I was refunded for the purchases. I asked what ingredients in the product would cause such reactions, she explained that I would have to see an allergist or dermatologist.
