Del Monte Foods Inc. has initiated a recall of nearly 200,000 cans of Good & Gather Cut Green Beans due to potential contamination with a foreign object.

The recall affects products distributed in 21 states, including Alabama, Arizona and California.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on March 13 following Del Monte’s voluntary initiation on Feb. 12. The affected products can be identified by the following label information:

  • Size: 14.5 oz
  • UPC: 0 85239-11628 9
  • Best if used by: Oct. 28, 2026
  • Lot: 7AA 418507

According to the FDA, this Class II recall indicates that the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, although the probability of serious health issues is remote.

“The recall is ongoing,” the FDA notice states, highlighting the seriousness of the potential contamination.

Consumers should check product labels, recall notice urges

The recall notice advises consumers to identify the affected Good & Gather Cut Green Beans by checking the products’ labels for specific details, including the UPC and lot number.

The recalled green beans were sold at Target stores in 21 states, including Georgia, Illinois and Texas. Although the exact nature of the foreign object is not disclosed, the recall underscores the importance of consumer safety and vigilance.

The FDA, Del Monte and Target have not provided specific instructions for consumers who purchased the recalled products. However, it is generally recommended to avoid consuming the product and return it to the store for a refund or disposal.

Del Monte Foods is actively working to address the situation by coordinating with retailers to remove the affected products from shelves and prevent further distribution.

For more information about the recall, consumers can visit the FDA’s official website or contact Del Monte Foods directly at 1 (925) 949-2772. Guidance may also be available through Target’s customer service channels.

Del Monte Foods says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In other Del Monte news, the company is facing class action allegations that its “100% juice” diced peaches include artificial ingredients and preservatives.
