A new Stryker hip replacement lawsuit has been recently filed by a Wisconsin man alleging serious metal hip implant complications. The claimant filed this Stryker hip replacement lawsuit against the manufacturer alleging their defective medical product had compounded his medical condition and is seeking compensation for the expensive medical bills.
Plaintiff John S. is filing this Stryker hip replacement lawsuit soon after suffering metal hip implant complications, which were allegedly caused by the defective nature of the prosthetic.
According to the Stryker hip replacement lawsuit, John had the Stryker LFIT V40 metal hip implant implemented in both of his hips on June 29, 2007 and Nov. 9, 2007. John allegedly suffered metal hip implant complications due to the defective all-metal components interacting, which led to metallosis.
Metallosis or blood metal poisoning occurs when metal ion levels in the body become dangerously high. This condition can develop into other health problems. The furthering of these side effects often occurs around the implant area, with metal hip implant patients often reporting:
- Fretting
- Corrosion
- Tissue death
- Infection
- Debilitating pain
- Formation of pseudotumors
According to the Stryker hip replacement lawsuit, the company did not provide any warnings about potential metal hip implant complications before or after John’s implant procedures.
John states he never would have opted for the all metal hip implant if he had known about the potential complications associated with the products.
Overview of Metal Hip Implant Complications
Stryker and several other manufacturing companies have faced serious legal action over the alleged complications of their all metal hip implants. When metal-on-metal hip implants were first introduced to the market, they were thought to be overtly superior to their plastic and ceramic counterparts.
The Stryker LFIT V40 is one of these metal implants, with marketing materials claiming the device to be superior to other options and an ideal choice for patients looking to live an active lifestyle. All metal hip implants were thought to be more durable and longer lasting, with many of them being customizable to patients.
However, it has been alleged that all metal hip implants are unreasonably dangerously dangerous to patients, with no plastic or ceramic between the components. This means that when the metal ball and socket joints interact, they naturally fret and shed metal ions into the bloodstream.
This leads to a multitude of complications, and often forces patients to undergo revision surgery to resolve them. It is important to note that revision surgery is considered riskier than the initial implant procedure, due to the higher risk of infection.
Even though these complications can be potentially devastating to patients, Stryker and other manufacturers allegedly failed to warn the general public against these problems. At all times relevant, John had used the Stryker LFIT V40 metal hip implant for its intended purpose and did not deviate from medical instructions.
John has filed this Stryker hip replacement lawsuit alleging the device was unreasonably dangerous and seeking multiple counts of negligence.
This Stryker Hip Replacement Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-01410, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
