The Chrysler Corporation and its associated manufacturing giants are facing an asbestos wrongful death lawsuit from a pair of siblings claiming the companies are responsible for their father’s death.
This man worked as an engineer for the companies for over 20 years, during which time he was allegedly exposed to asbestos on a daily basis.
Siblings Tarisa W. and Breck W. are filing this asbestos wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of their father Frank W.
Also named as a defendant in the asbestos wrongful death lawsuit is Rust Engineering and Construction Inc. which provided some of the asbestos material that Frank worked with.
Frank initially worked in the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) from approximately 1966 to 1968 as an engineer for Chrysler Corporation.
From 1974 to 1993, Frank was employed at the MAF as mechanical engineer by Lockheed Martin Corporation. Frank worked in office buildings that contained asbestos and used parts containing asbestos on a daily basis as part of his occupational duties.
Due to 24 years of almost daily asbestos exposure, Frank eventually developed malignant mesothelioma and was diagnosed with the disease on August 25, 2008. However Frank was diagnosed at a late stage and eventually died from disease in January 2009.
Overview of Asbestos Dangers
Asbestos fibers are microscopic and 700x smaller than a human hair. This material was commonly used for manufacturing and construction purposes. Asbestos was popularly used until the 1980s for these purposes for its cheap price, as well as its fire and chemical resistant qualities.
However, it was discovered that asbestos exposure could impose a number of health problems, including severe forms of cancer.
Mesothelioma is an extremely rare form of lung cancer that is specifically caused by asbestos fibers becoming embedded in the mucus lining of the lungs.
When the asbestos fibers are inhaled or swallowed, they become lodged in the lungs and eventually fester. This condition is often diagnosed at a late stage, because it can take up to 50 years to show any symptoms.
Due to the serious health impairments asbestos exposure brings, manufacturing companies are obligated to warn their workers of potential exposure and to provide protective gear like gas masks.
According to the asbestos wrongful death lawsuit, Tarisa and Breck allege that the companies knew the health risks of asbestos exposure but failed to warn their father.
Tarisa and Breck state that their father’s daily exposure directly contributed to his disease, and are filing this asbestos wrongful death lawsuit seeking multiple counts of negligence.
