shipyard-worker-asbestos-exposureA resident of Washington State alleges in a new lawsuit that he has been diagnosed with mesothelioma because of his shipyard worker asbestos exposure.

The plaintiff, Michael W., filed a shipyard worker asbestos exposure lawsuit against ABB Inc., CBS Corporation, General Electric, and a number of other manufacturers responsible for the asbestos-containing products used at the shipyard.

After decades of work as a shipyard worker in the Seattle area, from 1956 through 1988, Michael says he received an asbestos mesothelioma cancer diagnosis in June 2018. He alleges that this diagnosis was caused by shipyard worker asbestos exposure experienced at work due to a slew of products containing asbestos.

Michael’s lawsuit was filed against a number of companies he claims are responsible for the asbestos exposure that led to his cancer diagnosis. According to the lawsuit, these companies failed to give adequate warning about the risks associated with their asbestos products.

Michael filed his shipyard worker asbestos exposure lawsuit on Oct. 5, 2018, in the Superior Court of Washington for King County. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including product liability, negligence, conspiracy, and several others.

Michael is far from the first to file a lawsuit over mesothelioma diagnosis caused by exposure to asbestos. If you or someone you love has suffered from mesothelioma after shipyard worker asbestos exposure or other asbestos exposure, you may be able to file a lawsuit and pursue compensation.

What is Asbestos?

You’ve probably heard of asbestos: a mineral that used to be used for commercial products like electrical and building insulation, among others, but has since been found to be extremely hazardous. Indeed, exposure to asbestos is associated with a number of dangerous and even life-threatening health complications, including mesothelioma cancer.

Regulations have been in place to monitor and limit the use of asbestos for many years now, but those who were exposed to this substance years ago may only now be facing the consequences. Indeed, it may take decades for symptoms of mesothelioma to surface. Because of this delay, mesothelioma is commonly diagnosed much later in its development, when it has reached a more dangerous stage.

Even though the use of asbestos has been heavily regulated in the last few decades, this delay means that those exposed to asbestos decades ago are only now being diagnosed with life-threatening cancer.

Pursuing Asbestos Mesothelioma Litigation

Despite the heavy regulation of asbestos in recent years, many people are only now being diagnosed with mesothelioma because of asbestos exposure from decades ago.

If you were diagnosed with asbestos mesothelioma or another asbestos disease after suffering from shipyard worker asbestos exposure, or a loved one died from mesothelioma, you may be able to file an asbestos lawsuit. Loss of consortium claims are also possible for spouses and families of those who have been affected.

Filing litigation over asbestos mesothelioma complications cannot undo what a patient has suffered because of asbestos exposure, and it cannot bring a loved one back to life, but it can help with financial expenses like medical bills and lost wages.

The Shipyard Worker Asbestos Exposure Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-01472, in the Superior Court of Washington for King County.
