Doughnut recall overview:

  • Who: FGF Brands recalled about 2 million baked goods — including doughnuts sold at Dunkin’.
  • Why: The products may be contaminated with listeria.
  • Where: The doughnut recall is active in the United States.

About 2 million baked goods sold nationwide — including doughnuts sold at Dunkin’ — were recalled due to concerns the products might be contaminated with listeria, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Manufacturer FGF Brands issued the recall involving products made before Dec. 13, 2024, the FDA said in an enforcement report published Feb. 5

The recalled products included a range of chocolate, raspberry and Bavarian doughnuts, French crullers, éclairs and coffee rolls. Some of the doughnuts and coffee rolls were sold at Dunkin’.

Listeria can be deadly, federal health agency says

Listeria is the third-leading cause of death from food-borne illness in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Most people who consume food contaminated with the bacteria don’t get sick, but pregnant women, infants and older people, along with those with weakened immune systems can become seriously ill or die, the CDC says.

An estimated 1,600 Americans are infected with listeria each year, and about 260 people die from the bacteria, the agency states.

Last year, Dunkin’ was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging its Refresher drinks contain none of the fruits advertised in their names, including mango, pineapple and dragonfruit.

The company also faced another class action filed by ten consumers with milk allergies and/or lactose intolerance who alleged Dunkin’ imposes an illegal surcharge for all non-dairy milk alternatives.
