Pressure cooker stainless steel explosion burnReports of pressure cooker explosion have been popping up throughout the country, as many consumers state they suffered burns and other injuries due to these defective devices.

Recently, a class action lawsuit investigation has been launched after numerous consumers reported instances of pressure cooker explosion. According to the pressure cooker explosion reports, consumers suffered second and third degree burns after the boiling contents were released onto them.

The pressure cooker explosion class action investigation applies to consumers who may have purchased a defective pressure cooker and either were injured or found the device did not work as intended.

Pressure cookers and pressure ovens work by trapping steam inside a sealed chamber, increasing the pressure gradually up to 15 pounds per square inch. As the pressure increases, the cooking temperature increases up to 250 degrees. This quickly prepares the food, making pressure cookers very popular in the United States.

However, the popularity of this device does not mean it is foolproof, as the mechanisms of these devices already present potential danger in the case of device malfunction. A pressure cooker explosion can cause boiling hot water or contents to spill out and onto the consumer, causing serious injury and burns.

Occurrences of pressure cooker explosion have been traced to faulty valves that are used to control pressure after the unit is locked, allowing the pressure and temperature to increase.

Overview of Pressure Cooker Explosion Problems

A pressure cooker explosion can also occur if the safety lock mechanisms on the lid fails, the mechanism that should keep the device closed until it sufficiently depressurizes. The safety lock components of the pressure cooker is supposed to assure that the device is safely sealed shut, and will not release until it is safe for the consumer to do so. Instead, defective components reportedly caused the pressure cooker explosion incidents and put consumers at risk for serious injury.

Both second and third degree burns have been reported in conjunction with pressure cooker explosion incidents, with customers also reporting that they suffered from hot steam burns that occurred when the safety lock broke and the lid flew open.

Regardless of which injury the consumer reports, it is very concerning to read reports of sudden pressure cooker explosions with the lid coming off and releasing dangerously hot water and food onto the unsuspecting consumer.

The pressure cooker explosion class action lawsuit investigation applies to consumers who bought pressure cookers from different manufacturing companies, including:

  • Aldi
  • Crofton
  • Cuisinart
  • Maxi-Matic
  • Tristar
  • Wolfgang Puck

Numerous consumers have already filed legal action against the manufacturing companies, alleging they sustained serious second and third degree burns from the pressure cooker explosions.

Consumers can potentially seek compensation for a number of damages including: medical bills, negligence, as well as pain and suffering. These consumers state the companies either knew or should have known about potential pressure cooker explosion occurrences, but allegedly failed to warn the public.
