PS3 Owners Sue EA Over Broken Battlefield Promise
By Sarah Pierce

Don’t mess with
Battlefield 3 gamers. A group of disgruntled PlayStation3 owners have filed a class action lawsuit against Electronic Arts for not only backing out of its promise to provide a free copy of
Battlefield 1943 when they picked up
Battlefield 3, but also for the shady manner in which the reneged offer was announced.
The PS3 owners are taking EA to court over the matter, alleging in the Battlefield 3 class action lawsuit that EA “misled and profited from thousands of their customers by making a promise that they could not, and never intended, to keep.”
The crux of the case is not just that EA backed out of its promise for a free copy of Battlefield 1943, but that it made the announcement so late (after people had already picked up a copy of the game) and made the announcement so poorly (via Twitter, which many customers never even saw).
The PS3 owners claim EA’s free Battlefield offer enticed thousands of customers to buy the PS3 version of the game over other systems, such as Xbox 360 or PC. As a result, they say, EA profited at its customers’ expense.
The angry PS3 owners are reportedly only asking that EA provide the free copy of Battlefield 1943 they were promised — a reasonable request, if you ask us.
