A Propecia side effects lawsuit alleges the male pattern baldness treatment caused a Florida man to suffer sexual dysfunction.

Plaintiff Austin G. claims he was prescribed Propecia (finasteride) as a baldness treatment. He filed this Propecia lawsuit in Florida federal court alleging:

“Prior to using finasteride products Plaintiff did not suffer from sexual dysfunctions or cognitive impairment. However, while consuming finasteride products, Plaintiff began to suffer severe sexual dysfunction and cognitive impairment.”

Because of these Propecia side effects, Austin allegedly suffers from a significant amount of pain and suffering, and said his quality of life has diminished.

Austin accuses Merck of negligence, breach of implied warranties, breach of express warranties, and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

The Propecia Lawsuit is Case No. 1:15-cv-01682-JG-VVP, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Propecia Side Effects

Propecia is a popular medication used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (bph) and androgenic alopecia (more commonly known as male pattern baldness). Since being introduced into the American pharmaceutical market, Merck Sharpe & Dohme has sold about 1 million Propecia prescriptions across the nation.

According to recent Propecia side effects studies and Propecia lawsuits like Austin’s, Propecia has been linked with several sexual health complications for its male consumers using it as a baldness or bph treatment, which can include:

• Erectile dysfunction (ED)
• Loss of sex drive
• Impotence
• Low libido
• Inability to orgasm

In April 2012, the FDA required the manufacturer of finasteride to make a mandatory Propecia drug label change in order to include a warning informing consumers about the “libido disorders, ejaculation disorders, and orgasm disorders that continued after discontinuation of the drug.”

Merck had included a Propecia sexual dysfunction warning on the drug’s labeling and packaging before these FDA mandated label change, but this Propecia label also included claims to reassure consumers and doctors that the Propecia side effects were temporary and would resolve themselves once a man stopped taking the finasteride drug. However, it seems that these reassuring claims by Merck underplayed the risk of Propecia sexual dysfunction.

Because of these alleged Propecia side effects, Merck is currently facing over 1,200 finasteride lawsuits filed by men and/or their significant others after the patient suffered one or more of the above listed Propecia complications.
