Eliquis Bleeding

A group of plaintiffs have joined together to address Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding injuries in a lawsuit against the makers of the anticoagulant, Boehringer Ingelheim.

Over forty plaintiffs, all who have personally suffered or who represent those who have suffered from Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding injuries, have joined in a mass tort filed against drug maker, Boehringer Ingelheim.

This lawsuit has recently been removed to federal court and is being tried in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

The one thing the plaintiffs or those they represent have in common is that they have all been affected by Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding injuries, including many fatalities.

According to this Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding injuries lawsuit, Pradaxa is an orally-taken anticoagulant that was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2010 to prevent stroke and systemic embolism in patients who suffer from atrial fibrillation.

Pradaxa is a direct thrombin inhibitor. At the time of initial approval, Boehringer Ingelheim did not have an antidote for Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding injuries available to patients. It has not been until very recently that Pradaxa has had an available antidote to combat bleeding events.

The plaintiffs allege that Pradaxa is not safer than its market predecessor, warfarin. Pradaxa might be more convenient to manage and monitor than warfarin, but it is not safer as marketing suggests, the plaintiffs claim.

Warfarin has an antidote available to combat uncontrollable bleeding events ─ namely, vitamin K. Pradaxa did not have its own antidote until after it had already been on the market for several years.

Plaintiffs claim in this lawsuit that Pradaxa sales increased in 2010 at the same time the number of FDA adverse event reports increased.

In 2011, the FDA issued a safety warning about Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding injuries because it had received so many adverse event reports.

Plaintiffs claim Pradaxa’s inherent design defects and the allegedly reckless mistakes that the drug maker has made in marketing Pradaxa puts patients at an increased risk for developing potentially fatal internal bleeding.

The Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding injuries lawsuit states that when many of the named plaintiffs took Pradaxa, there was no antidote available. These patients could bleed to death internally with no hope for the condition to be reversed.

All claimants agree that the drug maker failed to warn the medical community as well as patients relative to the risks associated with the use of Pradaxa. They knew or should have known that patients would needlessly suffer Pradaxa uncontrollable bleeding injuries as a result of their use of the anticoagulant.

This Pradaxa Uncontrollable Bleeding Injuries Lawsuit is Case No. 4:17-cv-01525-SPM, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
