boy listening to musicApple Inc. has been reportedly receiving numerous Powerbeats2 complaints from consumers alleging the headphones stopped working before the warranty period expired and would not accept a charge.

The Powerbeats2 complaints indicate consumers had taken in their Powerbeats2 headphones in for repair or replacement, but were allegedly just given another set of headphones with the same defect. Beats products are known for expensive and high quality headphones for the consumer market, and often come with a one year warranty policy provided by Apple.

This warranty is supposed to provide consumers protection against “defects in materials and workmanship” for a year, starting from the day of purchase. According to the Apple one year limited warranty policy, Apple Inc. can address the problem in one of the following ways:

  • Repair the product with no charge
  • Exchange the product for another product for the equivalent function purpose
  • Refunding the customer for the defective product

Overview of Powerbeats2 Complaints

Online forums reveal scores of Powerbeats2 complaints, describing these expensive headphones as being fragile and not long lasting. Powerbeats2 wireless headphones retail for around $199, but customers complain the headphones either stopped working or could not hold a charge in just a matter of seconds.

Even for Powerbeats2 customers who were given replacement headphones, they allegedly experienced the same problems with the replacement pair. According to a 2016 review on cnet.com, the sound quality from the headphones was good but they broke just after a few weeks. Even though Apple replaced the headphones for this consumer, the second pair also broke in just a few weeks.

In another review on Amazon, a consumer complained they had to purchase a third pair of Powerbeats2 headphones in just seven months.

Other Powerbeats2 complaints have stated similar sentiments, from customers alleging the headphones were treated in a typical manner and were not subjected to harsh treatment or water damage. Harsh treatment and water damage could be a possible explanation for the headphone defects, but each of the customers states their Powerbeats2 headphones were treated properly.

Some customers believe the failure of Powerbeats2 headphones can be linked to sweat, since many of them used the headphones during exercise. If sweat causing defects were the case, Apple could potentially face false advertising allegations due to the nature of their Powerbeats2 advertisements. One of these marketing images feature NBA basketball player LeBron James working out while using Powerbeats2 headphones, while marketing statements advertised wireless headphones to be “sweat and water resistant.”

Powerbeats2 are a part of a new wireless headphone line using Bluetooth technology, which allows customers to hear content without headphone wires. Along with next generation product Powerbeats3, these headphones are expensive and give the indication they are high quality long lasting products.

Even though Apple Inc. has reacted prompt to most Powerbeats2 complaints, consumers state that replacing allegedly defective products does not resolve the defective nature of the expensive headphones.

Due to volume of Powerbeats2 complaints, a class action investigation has begun to determine the validity of the allegations and if there is any eligibility for legal action. Consumers who have suffered similar problems with their Powerbeats2 headphones may be eligible to participate in this Powerbeats2 class action investigation.
