Abilify Gambling Problem Lawsuit Abilify Facts
Verdis and many other Abilify patients like him purport that the drug’s manufactures failed to warn patients of the adverse effects in causing compulsive gambling. Many patients, therefore, just like Verdis, have suffered from extreme losses due to this adverse effect. They hope in filing lawsuits against the manufactures to reclaim some of the financial losses that they have suffered.
Allegations raised against the company maintain that the drug’s warning label did not identify compulsive gambling as an adverse side effect of the medication. In addition, warnings of compulsive gambling had only been added in 2010, after the drug had already been on the market for eight years.
Several adverse event reports have also been filed and cited by the FDA. The adverse event reports are complaints filed by patients who have suffered from adverse side effects. Some of those side effects not only include compulsive gambling, but compulsive, eating, shopping, and sex. These adverse event reports were cited by the federal agency in May 2016.
How Abilify Causes Compulsive Behavior
Although experts are not exactly sure how Abilify causes compulsive behavior, they do believe that it is because it has an impact on the brain’s dopamine pathway.
According to an article titled “The Neural Circuitry of Reward and Its Relevance to Psychiatric Disorders,” the authors say that a possible mechanism by which drugs that act on dopamine neurons, like aripiprazole, might possibly have some effect on behavior related to award.”
The Abilify Gambling Problem Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-00796-MCR-CJK, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, Pensacola Division. The Abilfy MDL is In re: Abilify (Aripiprazole) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No 3:16-md-2734, also in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida, Pensacola Division.
