August Egg Company is recalling more than 1.7 million cartons of shelled eggs due to potential Salmonella contamination.

The recall was prompted by reports of Salmonella infections linked to the eggs, with 79 cases reported across seven states, including Arizona, California, and Washington. Twenty-one people have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.

The recall, announced on June 6, 2025, involves various types of eggs, including organic, cage-free brown, and Omega-3 varieties.

These eggs were distributed from February 3, 2025, through May 15, 2025, with sell-by dates ranging from March 4, 2025, to June 19, 2025.

The affected eggs can be identified by plant codes P-6562 or CA5330 and Julian Dates between 32 to 126. According to the recall, these eggs were sold at major retailers such as Walmart, Save Mart, and Safeway.

Recall: Consumers should discard or return affected eggs

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled eggs and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The recall notice emphasizes the importance of cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the eggs to prevent cross-contamination.

“Consumers who have this product should discontinue use immediately and return it to the place of purchase or discard it,” the recall notice says.

The CDC also advises washing hands, utensils, and surfaces with hot, soapy water after handling the eggs.

August Egg Company has taken steps to address the issue by diverting eggs to an egg-breaking plant for pasteurization to eliminate any potential pathogens. The company is also conducting an internal review to prevent future occurrences.
