If you have suffered from injuries because of an Optetrak total knee replacement, you may be able to pursue litigation.

Optetrak Total Knee Replacement Basics

The Exactech Optetrak total knee replacement was first approved in 1994 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Ever since then, the knee implant has been updated through 510(k) premarket notifications—a system which does not require complete testing of the device, instead relying on tests of previous versions of the device.

Unfortunately, the FDA has received reports that components of the Optetrak total knee replacement may fail early, leading to serious side effects.

A recent study from Exactech found that many patients who had the Optetrak total knee replacement implanted for less than two years were already reporting a numer of serious problems, including pain and device loosening.

Side Effects of the Optetrak Total Knee Replacement

Patients have reported severe complications linked with knee implants like the Optetrak total knee replacement device. Some of these injuries have been serious enough to warrant a recall and many patients have had to undergo revision surgery to remove the device. Revision surgery brings with it some of its own risks and additional costs.

Patients have reported a number of major complications from devices like the Optetrak total knee replacement, including:

  • Pain
  • Tibial implant loosening
  • Infections
  • Inflammation
  • Fractures
  • Metallosis
  • Loosening
  • Loss of the bone’s attachment with the implant
  • Need for revision surgery

The Optetrak total knee replacement is not the only implant linked with some of these serious complications. Others include the DePuy Synthes Attune and the Arthrex iBalance, which have each reportedly caused major side injuries, leading to device recalls.

Filing an Optetrak Total Knee Replacement Lawsuit

Exactech was involved in an investigation over an alleged kickback scheme several years ago, resulting in a $3 million settlement with the Department of Justice in 2010.

Countless lawsuits have already been filed over total knee replacement devices like the Optetrak total knee replacement, as well as the DePuy Synthes Attune and the Arthrex iBalance. If you or someone you love has suffered due to the Optetrak total knee replacement device or another knee implant, you may be able to file a lawsuit of your own. Optetrak total knee replacement lawsuits allege that Exactech failed to give the public and the medical community adequate warning about the side effects linked with the Optetrak total knee replacement device.

While filing a lawsuit cannot undo the physical pain and emotional suffering caused by problems with the Optetrak total knee replacement device, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses, lost wages, and other costs associated with these injuries.
