Januvia Diabetes Drugs LawsuitType-2 diabetes medication Onglyza has only recently been introduced to the market. However, already patients have found that the drug contains unknown side effects, such as pancreatic cancer. Onglyza lawsuits may be filed if you developed pancreatic cancer or suffered other dangerous Onglyza side effects.

About Onglyza

Onglyza (saxagliptin) was approved in 2009 by the FDA. It belongs to a class of drugs called mimetics. Mimetics help the pancreas regulate the blood sugar in the body. While this class of  drug has been safe and successful for some people, it has caused terrible side effects in others.

Diabetes medication and mimectic drug Avandia was recalled due to the large number of cardiac death cases that followed drug use. Onglyza is currently being investigated for causing patients side effects such as pancreatic cancer, thyroid cancer, and heart failure.

Onglyza Pancreatic Cancer

In March 2013, researchers published a study that showed that patients who used a mimetic drug such as Onglyza had a 40 percent larger pancreas. This can greatly increase a patient’s chances of developing pancreatic cancer or pancreatitis.

Following the publication of this study, the FDA announced that they would be examining pancreatic cancer side effects in mimetic drugs, including Onglyza.

About Pancreatic Cancer

According to the American Cancer Society, 48,960 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, and 40,560 people will die from the same condition.

There are multiple kinds of tumors that can signify pancreatic cancer. Most are actually called pancreatic adenocarcinoma, which is a cancer that begins in the gland cells.

Risk factors for pancreatic cancer include family history, tobacco use, weight, diabetes, and more. It is possible that the drug manufacturer of Onglyza will claim that it was the diabetes that led to alleged Onglyza pancreatic cancer. However, the strong link between Onglyza users and pancreatic cancer suggests a connection.

AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb, the manufacturers of Onglyza, have already been required to include the risk of heart failure on their drug’s warning label.

Onglyza Lawsuits

If you have suffered from pancreatic cancer, heart failure, or other alleged Onglyza side effects, then you may be entitled to legal compensation.

Plaintiffs in Onglyza lawsuits may claim that the drug manufacturer failed to warn against dangerous side effects, and that they knew or should have known (especially with other mimectic drug dangers) about the possibility of cancer or heart side effects. Plaintiffs may win compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.

If your spouse has developed an Onglyza side effect, you may be able to file for loss of consortium or loss of intimacy with a spouse. Wrongful death Onglyza lawsuits may also be filed by the loved ones of an individual who died from Onglyza side effects.

In general, Onglyza lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
