A testosterone product lawsuit has been filed in Illinois claiming Eli Lilly’s testosterone therapy Axiron caused a New York resident to suffer from deep vein thrombosis, a dangerous blood clot. This complaint was consolidated into the testosterone products multidistrict litigation (MDL) which includes other allegations of testosterone side effects including heart attack.

Plaintiff Ronald H. began to take Axiron, a low testosterone treatment, in May 2012. He stopped using the product in October of the same year after suffering from deep vein thrombosis.

Ronald is one of millions of men who have been given testosterone therapy to treat low testosterone levels. Signs of low testosterone levels can include a low sex drive, hair loss, loss of muscle mass, and many other symptoms.

Testosterone levels decrease with age naturally, but over 5 million men each year are given testosterone products to counteract these low testosterone side effects. While testosterone therapy was designed to only be given to men who actually have low testosterone levels, drug manufacturers have allegedly marketed their products towards a larger population of men who wish to improve upon their lack of sex drive or lack of muscle mass. 

Counts in this testosterone product lawsuit included design defect, failure to warn, negligence, negligent misrepresentation, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, breach of express warranty, and fraud. Ronald is also filing for punitive damages and relief.

Testosterone Side Effects

Many men have allegedly developed testosterone side effects that they were not adequately warned about by drug makers. Users have reported that their testosterone therapy caused them to experience a heart attack, deep vein thrombosis, stroke, or pulmonary embolism. Some patients have allegedly died from low testosterone treatment.

One study found that testosterone product use could increase the risk of experiencing heart attack or similar side effect by as much as 30 percent.

It was also suggested that low testosterone products are only effective on those who have extremely low testosterone levels to begin with and may not be effective for those who have normal levels.

Testosterone Product Lawsuits

Yet countless men are being prescribed testosterone products and are being put at risk of developing potentially deadly testosterone side effects that were not included on the warning label. As a result, many testosterone product lawsuits have been filed against drug manufacturers, such as Eli Lilly, claiming that they failed to warn against deep vein thrombosis and other alleged testosterone side effects.

Testosterone products such as creams, gels, injections, and patches are all currently under investigation in a testosterone product class action lawsuit investigation.

This Testosterone Product Lawsuit is Case No. 1:14-cv-04396, and is part of In Re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation,  MDL No. 2545, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
