Researchers recently suggested that statin drugs, such as Lipitor, carry significant risks. Drug manufacturers like Pfizer have allegedly minimized drug side effects relating to type-2 diabetes and other complications.
The study published in the Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology this month reviewed several Lipitor clinical trials and other statin drug tests. The researchers found that manufacturers may not only have been minimizing Lipitor complications or other statin drug complications, but that the risk may not be worth the effect statin drugs have on people. It was suggested that Lipitor and other drugs are not significantly better at treating high cholesterol than other drugs.
Researchers Dr. David M. Diamond from the University of South Florida and Dr. Uffe Ravnskov said, “Our opinion is that although statins are effective at reducing cholesterol levels, they have failed to substantially improve cardiovascular outcomes.”
They said that drug maker Pfizer’s actions are “deceptive” in their promotion of Lipitor and other statin drugs that have caused hundreds of type-2 diabetes cases.
Pfizer and other manufacturers have claimed that Lipitor/statin drugs will be helpful to 30 percent to 50 percent of users. However, the review suggested that Lipitor may only really help one out of 100 people.
This could mean that thousands of individuals have needlessly put themselves in danger of Lipitor diabetes without being aware of type-2 diabetes as a Lipitor complication or the fact that statins may not be the best choice of medication.
Lipitor Type-2 Diabetes Side Effects
Hundreds of women have claimed that Lipitor caused them to develop type-2 diabetes. Type-2 diabetes is a life-long disorder that may be managed through major lifestyle changes and monitoring.
In spite of potential Lipitor complications, Pfizer has minimized the risks associated with taking their cholesterol medication. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) eventually forced Pfizer to change the label on Lipitor to include Lipitor diabetes risks.
This change followed a study that found that women who used Lipitor were 48 percent more likely to experience Lipitor complications such as type-2 diabetes. Pfizer may claim that it was the patient’s previous condition that caused type-2 diabetes to develop, but the noticeable increase of type-2 diabetes in Lipitor users has not gone unnoticed.
Multiple Lipitor lawsuits have been filed against Pfizer alleging that the company was aware or should have been aware of Lipitor diabetes risks but hid them from their customers and the medical community.
Lipitor diabetes symptoms may include:
- Increased thirst
- Dry mouth
- Increased hunger (especially after eating)
- Frequent urination
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
- Slow-healing sores or frequent infections
- Areas of darkened skin
- Headaches
Lipitor lawsuits seek to win compensation from Pfizer for medical bills, pain and suffering, and others. A Lipitor class action lawsuit investigation has been launched.
