New 18 Wheeler Accident Lawsuit Filed After Woman’s DeathA group of plaintiffs recently filed a lawsuit after an 18 wheeler accident ended in one woman’s untimely death. According to the lawsuit, the 18 wheeler accident—and the subsequent injuries and death that occurred as a result—was caused by the negligence of the truck driver.

The plaintiffs allege that defendant Michael E. was a commercial truck driver employed by Gray Transportation, which is also a named defendant in the lawsuit.

On April 30, 2018, Michael was allegedly driving along a Georgia highway. At the same time, plaintiffs say, the late Betty N. was driving a 2014 Honda Accord ahead of Michael on the road.

Betty was preparing to turn left into her cousin’s driveway, but Michael’s truck was allegedly following too closely behind her. The lawsuit claims that Michael was driving the 18 wheeler at an excessive speed. He allegedly tried to pass Betty’s vehicle as it slowed down by changing lanes in a no passing zone.

Unfortunately, the 18 wheeler subsequently collided with Betty’s Honda, leading to serious injuries and, soon thereafter, her death.

The plaintiffs allege that Michael’s driving was negligent and reckless, endangering Betty and ultimately causing her injuries and death. The lawsuit was filed by those Betty left behind on September 24, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Macon Division of the Middle District of Georgia.

On average, half a million truck accidents occur each year in the United States. Injuries from these accidents can be severe, and many end in fatalities—indeed, more than 100,000 involve a serious injury, and around 5,000 are fatal.

After a truck accident, it can feel like there’s nothing that can be done. But injured parties or family members may be able to pursue litigation against the truck driver, insurance company, and trucking company for compensation through truck accident settlements.

In many cases, these kinds of accidents can be extremely severe. Pursuing a truck accident settlement can help obtain compensation for injuries, medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, property damage, loss of companionship, and more.

In many cases, 18 wheeler accident settlements can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars or, in some cases, even in the millions. To most effectively handle truck accident litigation, it may help to consult a truck accident lawyer with experience in this area. They’ll be able to help you determine the scope of your claims and the best way to move forward.

Filing an 18 Wheeler Accident Lawsuit

If you or someone you love was injured or died in an accident with a truck, you may be able to pursue a truck accident lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot undo the pain and suffering caused by an 18 wheeler accident, or bring a loved one back to life, it can offer some substantial compensation to help with medical expenses, lost wages, loss of companionship, and vehicle or property damage, as well as hold the truck company and driver responsible.

The 18 Wheeler Accident Lawsuit is Case No. 5:18-cv-00346-TES, in the U.S. District Court for the Macon Division of the Middle District of Georgia.
