Neutrogena has initiated a recall of its Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes after discovering bacterial contamination. The recall affects 1,312 cases of the product, which were distributed across several states in the United States.

The Neutrogena makeup wipe recall, initiated on Sept. 19, 2025, affects 50-count Neutrogena Makeup Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes from lot number 1835U6325A.

These wipes were distributed to Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The contamination was identified during an internal investigation, which revealed the presence of Pluralibacter gergoviae, a bacterium that can lead to serious infections, particularly in individuals with compromised immune systems.

The FDA has classified this recall as Class II, indicating that the use of the contaminated product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.

“The FDA recommends avoiding the use of and disposing of the recalled products,” the Neutrogena makeup wipe recall notice says. The bacterium Pluralibacter gergoviae is known to cause respiratory diseases, urinary tract infections, eye infections, and sepsis, especially in those with weakened immune systems.

Consumers urged to check packaging for contamination

Consumers are advised to check the packaging for the lot number 1835U6325A and return the affected products for a refund.

“Immunocompromised people who are exposed to the bacteria can develop serious infections,” the recall notice says. The recall is a voluntary action initiated by Kenvue Brands LLC, the company responsible for distributing the product.

Kenvue Brands LLC is taking proactive measures to address the issue. They have advised consumers to discontinue using the affected wipes and return them to the place of purchase for a refund. The company is also working closely with the FDA to ensure that all affected products are removed from the market.

For more information about the recall, consumers can visit the FDA’s website or contact Kenvue Brands directly. The company has not issued a press release regarding this recall; however, updates can be found on the FDA’s website.

Neutrogena says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

I have used these face wipes for years and I purchased them from local stores and Amazon. I live on the border of Ga and Fl. I have a medical condition that causes a lowered immune system. This past summer I had a serious eye condition called cellulitis that was treated for over a month with several antibiotics, eye drops and weekly visits to a specialist. I also developed an ear infection, bronchitis and pneumonia. Several more physicians appointments, rays, CT scan, more antibiotics. I have proof of all of the above and above. I also have a photo of my eye infection. Please feel free to contact me at my email address. Thank you!
