A number of named defendants face a lung cancer from asbestos lawsuit filed by a former employee of the company in Louisiana federal court.

Plaintiff Gregory B. files the lawsuit, a resident of the state of Louisiana, alleging that he was diagnosed with asbestos-related lung cancer on Jan. 24, 2017. He attributes this disease to asbestos exposure that was the result of employer negligence.

According to the lung cancer from asbestos lawsuit, Gregory says that it was the direct and proximate result of asbestos exposure he endured while working for the defendant. He says that the exposure and lung cancer diagnosis led him to suffer financially, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Gregory states that he became exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos exposure while employed by Fibreline Corporation between 1967-1971, the lung cancer from asbestos lawsuit states.

He worked for the company as a machine operator/laborer at and around various sites of the state of Louisiana, Gregory says. Some of these locations included Occidental Chemical that was formerly known as Hooker Chemical in Taft, La., and Union Carbide Corporation also located in Taft.

While also working at Avondale Shipyard, located near New Orleans, La., intermittently between 1967- 1971, as a cleanup man/insulator helper, he claims he also became exposed to dangerous levels of asbestos.

According to the lung cancer from asbestos lawsuit, each of the named defendants should have known about the dangers of asbestos exposure, whose existence had been unknown to Gregory throughout the time of his employment.

“Instead of warning the Plaintiff and general public about these dangers, the defendants ignored or concealed such information, or condoned such concealment, in order to sell or use asbestos or asbestos-containing products,” the lung cancer from asbestos lawsuit states.

The lung cancer from asbestos lawsuit was filed on a count of negligence.

Overview: Lung Cancer from Asbestos

Asbestos occurs naturally in the environment and is the name given to six different kinds of fibrous minerals, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR).

Asbestos fibers are known of being strong, long, heat resistant, and flexible. Due to their flexibility, they can also be spun and woven. As a result of these built-in characteristics, asbestos has been used widely in friction products, heat-resistant fabrics, packaging, coatings, gaskets, and manufactured goods.

Asbestos may also be found in a variety of building materials. These materials include roofing shingles, paper products, asbestos cement products, and ceiling and floor tiles. In friction products, asbestos may also be found in materials such as automobile brakes, transmission parts, and clutches.

Certain occupations are, however, at higher risks for developing asbestos lung disease from exposure to the deadly fiber. These occupations may include:

  • U.S. Navy
  • U.S. Military
  • Shipyards workers
  • Auto mechanics
  • Paper mill workers
  • Construction workers
  • Textile workers
  • Insulation installers
  • Sheet metal workers
  • Roofers
  • Toll Collectors
  • Tilers
  • Linotype technicians
  • Plumbers
