benicar-diarrhea-discomfortJapanese drug giant Daiichi Sankyo is facing another Benicar lawsuit in the growing multidistrict litigation (MDL).

The Benicar lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff suffered a number of Benicar side effects which resulted in potentially permanent gastrointestinal damage.

Like many patients who were prescribed Benicar, Mississippi plaintiff Jerry L. had started using the medication to treat his high blood pressure and hypertension. By resolving these conditions, Jerry would live a healthier lifestyle and hopefully greater longevity.

Jerry had started using Benicar in 2010, but he began experiencing adverse Benicar side effects, which had resulted in serious gastrointestinal issues and medical expenses.

Among the complications Jerry suffered, some of the most serious include: villous atrophy, sprue-like enteropathy, colitis, chronic diarrhea and kidney failure. Additionally, Jerry had also suffered from malabsorption, malnutrition, dehydration, vomiting, nausea, and abdominal pain.

Due to these alleged Benicar side effects, Jerry required intense medical intervention and may continue to suffer from long-term gastrointestinal complications. Jerry is filing legal action against Daiichi Sankyo, claiming the drug maker failed to warn him of these Benicar side effects, alleging the pharmaceutical company was fully aware of these problems.

Jerry’s claim is joining a number of other Benicar lawsuits, with plaintiffs alleging similar claims and injuries in result of taking Benicar. Many Benicar injury reports indicate severe nausea, abdominal pain, weight loss, vomiting, chronic diarrhea, malnutrition, and malabsorption.

In more serious cases, Benicar users report more adverse events of sprue-like enteropathy and villous atrophy, both of which may require hospitalization and permanent gastrointestinal injury. These complications often result from the gastrointestinal effects that Benciar allegedly inflicts on the patient, from its treatment mechanism.

So for being allegedly responsible for manufacturing, selling, distributing, and marketing a dangerous drug, Jerry is suing Daiichi Sankyo. The charges include: negligence, false advertising, concealing information, and misrepresenting a product.

Overview of Benicar Side Effects

Benicar is apart of a medication class called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB), which is a naturally occurring protein that affects the cardiovascular system and the body’s blood pressure. When angiotensin II is released the blood vessels in the body narrow, which raises blood pressure.

Benicar counteracts this by blocking the angiotensin II proteins, and prevents blood vessel constriction. Through this treatment process, Benicar quickly became one of America’s most popular hypertension medication after its release in 2002.

However patients have been allegedly suffering severe gastrointestinal complications from Benicar’s effects, with the FDA eventually requiring Benicar’s label to be updated in April 2014. At this point, it is not known why Benicar may be causing these injuries but numerous similar injury reports have raised concerns within the medical community.

In a previous FDA warning in 2013, the agency warned the patient population that Benicar side effects could result in permanent problems with nutrition retention and intestinal functions. Ever since, many former Benciar patients have opted to file legal action against Daiichi Sankyo in New Jersey federal court.

The Benicar Lawsuit is filed In re: Benicar (Olmesartan) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2606, in the U.S. District Court of of New Jersey, Camden Vicinage.
