testosterone-lawsuit-abbvieA Michigan couple filed a low-T lawsuit against AbbVie Inc. and Abbott Laboratories for allegedly causing the husband to suffer blood clots.

Plaintiff Dennis J. claims that by using the defendants’ low testosterone (low-T) treatment AndroGel he suffered several blood clots.

Dennis was prescribed AndroGel in 2011, as part of his testosterone replacement therapy, the lawsuit says. He had been prescribed the low-T product, after becoming concerned over his decreasing libido and increasing fatigue.

These concerns are common among middle-aged in America, leading the testosterone treatment therapy industry to become a multi-billion dollar industry.

While low-T cardiac complications have been a concern for the medical community for years, a 2014 study from PLUSOne demontrated just how serious the situation could be.

The study found that the majority of low-T patients were at risk for heart complications. And it showed that younger men with heart conditions were at risk for blood clots, while older men were at risk regardless of heart health.

Medical experts advise that unless men have a legitimate testosterone-deteriorating condition, they should not be prescribed low-T products. Most of the symptoms that led to prescriptions were just the routine aspects of aging.

Since this study was released, numerous lawsuits have been filed against low-T manufacturing companies by former patients alleging heart and blood clot side effects.

The plaintiff reported three separate blood clot events allegedly from using AndroGel. He says he suffered a deep vein thrombosis on Oct. 31, 2012, a pulmonary embolism the next day, and another blood clot on Aug. 15, 2013. Dennis says he filed the lawsuit after learning that AndroGel and low-T products could cause cardiac complications.

Dennis insists that he never would have used AndroGel, if he had known the risks of blood clots. His lawsuit alleges negligence, false advertising, concealing information, and misrepresentation.

This low-T lawsuit is filed In Re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2545, in the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois.
