A new collaborative health study suggests that men who have low testosterone have a higher risk of having a stroke. While other studies have strongly supported these findings, it still remains uncertain if the use of low testosterone products (low-t treatment) directly contributes to the increased risk of stroke.
The low-t study, which was presented at the Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association’s annual meeting in Chicago, took place in Denmark where researchers looked at over 4,000 men from four different hospitals. The subjects all originally participated in a heart study conducted from 1981 to 1983 and were subsequently followed for nearly 30 years. It was found that 524 of these men suffered from stroke. From this information, it was found that men with low-t levels were a third more likely to have a stroke.
The researchers examined four other studies and continued to find evidence that showed an increase of stroke in men with low-t levels. These studies examined men primarily 60-70 years old, but men as young as 21 were also included and the association between low-t levels and stroke was still strong.
Overall, nearly 11,000 men were studied with the studies all strongly suggesting that the risk of stroke was actually higher than one-third.
While this and other studies have supported low-t strokes, what is less agreed upon is whether or not taking low testosterone treatment (or testosterone replacement therapy) has any effect upon the risk of stroke.
Testosterone Product Dangers
Low testosterone symptoms include low sex drive, hair loss, lack of energy, mood changes, and several other symptoms that often occur naturally with age. In order to combat low-t symptoms, 5.3 million men are prescribed testosterone products and are at risk for alleged testosterone side effects. One study suggested that men who take low-t treatment increase the risk of testosterone side effects by 30 percent.
One of the dangerous low-t side effects includes stroke. Many studies have supported the link between low testosterone treatment and the increased risk of stroke, as well as several other testosterone side effects. Testosterone products have allegedly caused many men to experience testosterone side effects such as heart attack, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, or even death.
Testosterone products come in the form of creams, gels, injections, and patches and are used by millions of men across the country. The following testosterone products are currently under investigation for alleged testosterone side effects:
- AndroGel
- AndroDerm
- Axiron
- Bio-T-Gel
- Delatestryl
- Depo-Testosterone
- Fortesta
- Striant
- Testin
- Testopel
Testosterone Product Lawsuits
Many testosterone replacement therapy users have filed testosterone product lawsuits against the respective manufacturers. Many testosterone product lawsuits have alleged that the manufacturers exposed them unnecessarily to testosterone side effects, claiming that low-t advertising is reaching a much larger number of men than those who actually need low-t treatment.
Testosterone manufacturers have been accused of overselling testosterone replacement therapy to men who would most likely not experience noticeable benefit from it.
A testosterone product class action lawsuit investigation has been launched to attempt to hold the manufacturers accountable for allegedly putting millions of men in danger.
