- Who: Plaintiff Raymond Soto filed a class action lawsuit against Johnson Health Tech North America Inc.
- Why: Soto claims the company’s Matrix training cycles have defective seats.
- Where: The Matrix training cycles class action was filed in Pennsylvania federal court.
A new nationwide class action lawsuit alleges that Johnson Health Tech North America Inc. sold training cycles with defective seats that can unexpectedly lower, posing a fall hazard to users.
The company recalled more than 12,000 Matrix indoor cycles earlier this year, but Soto claims the recall did not offer a permanent fix for the defect.
He claims Johnson Health Tech failed to disclose the defect and did not provide a permanent solution to the problem.
The Matrix cycle recall included a free repair kit, but Soto claims there was no guarantee that the defect would be fully resolved. As a result, he and other cycle owners are left with devalued products, the Matrix training cycles class action claims.
Matrix cycle class action alleges breach of warranty
Soto claims he purchased a Matrix CXP-03 cycle in Chicago in 2023, believing it was a high-quality product from a reputable company. He says he relied on the company’s marketing and reputation when making the purchase.
Soto’s Matrix training cycles class action lawsuit alleges the company breached its express and implied warranties by selling cycles that were not safe for their intended use.
He claims the cycles did not conform to the company’s promises and affirmations about their quality and safety.
He is therefore suing for breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, negligent design defect, fraud by omission, unjust enrichment, and negligence.
Soto is seeking certification of the class action, damages, and other relief.
The plaintiff is looking to represent anyone who purchased a recalled Matrix brand training cycle in the United States, with a subclass of consumers from Pennsylvania.
Also in March of 2025, Johnson Health Tech agreed to a $600,000 settlement to resolve claims its Horizon treadmills misrepresented the machine’s horsepower.
