A Texas couple recently filed a Xarelto side effects lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, alleging the popular blood thinner caused serious bleeding problems.
The plaintiff, Ricardo C., says he began taking Xarelto at the direction of his doctor in October 2015. He continued this usage for just under a year, until July 2016. Unfortunately, his use of Xarelto caused serious complications, the Xarelto side effects lawsuit claims, including severe adverse bleeding.
Indeed, Ricardo says he suffered from adverse bleeding events twice while taking Xarelto. The first was in December 2015. The second serious bleeding incident was in June 2016. Shortly thereafter, in July, Ricardo stopped his Xarelto intake for good.
Not only have these bleeding injuries caused pain and suffering, he claims, but they have also required medical treatment that incurred financial expenses, as well as loss of enjoyment of life.
Ricardo filed his Xarelto side effects lawsuit on multiple counts, including strict liability, manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, negligent misrepresentation, and fraud. Ricardo’s wife Elva also filed on one count of loss of consortium.
Background of Xarelto
Xarelto (also known by its generic name, rivaroxaban) is one of the more popular blood thinner drugs currently available. Xarelto is manufactured by Janssen, a prominent subsidiary of the pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson.
Xarelto is a fairly new anticoagulant option, first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July 2011. The primary purpose of Xarelto is to treat deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and other clot-related problems.
While it’s true that in most cases blood clots should be prevented, clotting can actually perform an essential function in certain instances. For instance, in internal bleeding emergencies, the body uses blood clotting to slow the bleeding. But a person on an anticoagulant like Xarelto may be in more danger. When the body is unable to form these life-saving blood clots, there is no other natural way of slowing the bleeding, which increases the patient’s risk of suffering permanent injury or even death.
Filing a Xarelto Side Effects Lawsuit
This Xarelto side effects lawsuit and others like it allege that Janssen had knowledge of the bleeding risks linked with Xarelto for years, yet failed to warn the patients and the medical community about these risks.
If you or someone you love has experienced severe or even fatal complications of Xarelto, you may be able to file a Xarelto side effects lawsuit.
While filing a Xarelto side effects lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of someone who has suffered from these Xarelto complications, and cannot bring a loved one back to life, it can at least help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.
The Xarelto Side Effects Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-17117, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
